Vulture is reporting that New Line Cinema is so pleased with a recent draft of Y: The Last Man that they have made it’s production a priority. They are beginning to consider candidates for both director and star. Prior directorial candidates included Louise Letterier (The Incredible Hulk) and DJ Caruso (Disturbia). Caruso wanted to cast Disturbia star Shia LaBouf, but recently Zachary Levi has expressed interest in playing the titular hero. Y: The Last Man follows Yorick, who after an epidemic wipes out all mammals with a Y chromosome finds himself the last man on the planet.

Y: The Last Man
is written by Brian K. Vaughn, and drawn by Pia Guerra. It has received several Eisner Awards and is extremely well regarded in the comic world.

For those unfamiliar to Yorick’s exploits, here is a description of volume 1;

From Amazon Y: THE LAST MAN, winner of three Eisner Awards and one of the most critically acclaimed, best-selling comic books series of the last decade, is that rare example of a page-turner that is at once humorous, socially relevant and endlessly surprising.

Written by Brian K. Vaughan (LOST, PRIDE OF BAGHDAD, EX MACHINA) and with art by Pia Guerra, this is the saga of Yorick Brown—the only human survivor of a planet-wide plague that instantly kills every mammal possessing a Y chromosome. Accompanied by a mysterious government agent, a brilliant young geneticist and his pet monkey, Ampersand, Yorick travels the world in search of his lost love and the answer to why he’s the last man on earth.

So what do you think? Excited or nervous for a big screen adaptation? I’m a little of both.

      i loved the books and I really hope the movie lives up to it's potential. I think it will depend on who is the star character though, I don't really see it as a Shia LaBouf kind of role, but I also kind of feel like he's a one trick pony, like Vince Vaughn and can't really play outside of his own personality.
