Xbox One System Update

Xbox Live’s Major Nelson and¬†Richard Irving from the Xbox engineering team chat about the system update coming in June for Xbox One. Some of the key features include external storage support, real names, auto sign-in, and new SmartGlass options. Just last week Microsoft announced entertainment apps will no longer require a Gold subscription after the June update.¬†

For external storage, you will need a 3.0 USB hard drive with at least 256GB of space to get started. The external hard drive will be used as the default storage space, but that can be changed by the user. Also, gamers can take their external drive to a friend’s house and play games on their machine. Please note, the content’s original owner will have to sign-in to their live account in order to play games.

Real name support allows your friends and friends of friends to see your real name. Of course you can pick and choose who will see your name on a case by case basis, and your gamertag will still be displayed while playing a game.

SmartGlass is getting several new features including arranging tiles, broadcast notifications, One Guide, and universal remote functionality for multiple devices.
