Will Ferrell Says Mugatu Is In ZOOLANDER 2; Cast Assembling for A Script Read

It’s been thirteen long years since Zoolander first hit theaters, conquering our hearts but not the box office.  The interim has seen the invention of the iPod and the decline of the DVD market.  And yet, talk of Zoolander 2 keeps humming along. Last month co-writer Justin Theroux confirmed that he and Ben Stiller had completed a script for the film and were in the midst of polishing it up.  Now Will Ferrell, who played the ever-essential antagonist Mugatu in the first film, has offered up even more encouraging news.

Ferrell recently told JoBlo:

“We are actually supposed to do a read-through of a sequel script soon, and Mugatu is a part of it.”

None of this means that the film is guaranteed to happen.  But it’s heartening that there’s a read-through of a completed script.  Stiller and Theroux are busy guys and, as much as they may love the material, I seriously doubt they’d write an entire script on spec.  So it’s likely that Paramount is spending at least a little money on development, if not just to kick the tires a bit.
