Wii U Quick Start Menu

The long awaited Wii U Update 5.0.0 U which features the Quick Start Menu is now available for your gaming pleasure. The Quick Start Menu displays the 10 most recent games or apps used on your Wii U console. Selecting one of these games or apps on the GamePad through the Quick Start Menu will bypass the main menu and go straight into the selected game or app.

Other key features in the update include:

  • An improved user settings and selection experience.
  • System updates can now be downloaded and installed when the Wii U console is in standby.
  • Full-screen alerts and notifications on your Wii U GamePad controller, even if the system is in standby. They’ll tell you about new updates, game releases, and promotions from Nintendo. You can adjust how you receive them.
  • Easier Nintendo Network ID setup for new users.

When the Wii U first launched it took the console forever to not only get to the main menu, but also felt like a lifetime to load games and apps. After installing the update We tested the load time from start to finish and the results can be found below.

  • Power On: Quick Start Menu is instantly available on the GamePad.
  • Selected New Super Mario Bros. U – Arrived at the title screen in 16 seconds of initial startup.
  • Arrived at the New Super Mario Bros. U main menu screen in 34 seconds of initial startup
  • Save file loaded and controlling character in 45 seconds of initial startup.

SUCCESS! The gang at Geek Legacy is happy to report the Quick Start Menu is amazing. We can’t believe we’re actually in-game and ready to play New Super Mario Bros. U within 45 seconds of booting up the console. That’ll do, Nintendo. That’ll do…
