Weekend News Round Up: June 9th, 2014 through June 15th, 2014

This week was a big week for horror! Friday the 13th (which for the horror community is essentially a national holiday) revealed a lot of treats for collectors and horror fans. It’s a good thing, too, because the next time Friday the 13th rolls around will be in February 2015! Check out this week’s top headlines below.

Monday, June 9th, 2014:

Leprechaun: Origins Trailer is Released

WWE Studios has released the first full trailer for Leprechaun: Origins, the upcoming prequel to the infamous Leprechaun series. The film stars wrestler Hornswoggle (Dylan Postl,) and seems to be more of a traditional horror venture that the series’ previous entries. Look for it on VOD August 26th, and on blu-ray September 30th. See the trailer here via Bloody Disgusting.

Ever wonder how you’d measure up to the Alien Queen? How about Godzilla? Well, now you can find out! Technology Services Group (TSG) has compiled an informative and interactive chart to show you just how big your favorite movie monsters would be in real life, and just how tiny you would be next to them. David Alpert Says the Walking Dead Could Last 12 Seasons

Walking Dead producer, David Alpert, spoke at a panel this weekend revealing that he believes the show could last up to 12 seasons, and that he already has season 10 planned out. “I happen to love working from source material,” he says, “specifically because we have a pretty good idea of what season 10 is gonna be. We know where season 11 and 12 [are going.] We have milestones for those seasons if we’re lucky enough to get there.” If pre-teens’ love for Darryl Dixon remains undying, they probably will.

Wednesday, June 11th, 2014:

Stefanie Scott Cast in Insidious: Chapter 3

Disney darling Stefanie Scott was among the first cast for the third installment of the Insidious series, set to be released April 3, 2015. There is little word on the intended plot for the franchise’s third film, but hopefully it’ll be more memorable than the last sequel. The third chapter will be directed by Leigh Whannell and will be produced by James Wan and Oren Peli. Stefanie is currently filming a live action adaptation of Jem and the Holograms, and has also starred in No Strings Attached and Wreck it Ralph.

MPAA Rates Deliver Us from Evil

The MPAA has officially christened horror’s newest mainstream offering with a promising ‘R’ rating. Deliver Us from Evil, from director Scott Derrickson (the Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sinister,) follows a New York City police officer as he teams up with a priest to investigate a slew of disturbing crimes stemming from demonic possessions. Deliver Us from Evil will debut in theaters July 2, 2014.

Details Emerge From the Set of American Horror Story: Freakshow

Sarah Paulson is giving us some major American Horror Story spoilers! The actress tweeted an exclusive ASH promotional photo telling her followers she is excited to be playing two characters this season—conjoined twins Bettie and Dot. Paulson will star alongside series regulars Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Dennis O’Hare and Frances Conroy, who have appeared in each season of AHS thus far. Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, and Angela Bassett will also be returning this season, along with AHS newcomer Michael Chiklis. American Horror Story: Freakshow will air on FX this October.

First Official Jurassic World Images Released

Although I’m still not quite sure how to see about this sequel, seeing the first official photos from the set are exciting! Peep the shots here, featuring the handsome Chris Pratt and the stunning Bryce Dallas Howard. Jurassic World is set for a June 12, 2015 release date and also stars New Girl’s Jake Johnson and Law and Order’s Vincent D’Onofrio.

Funko Launches Buffy the Vampire Slayer Pop Vinyl Line

Finally! Funko has released photos of their new Buffy Pop Vinyl line, and I couldn’t be more excited! The adorable figures will feature Buffy, Angel, Willow, Oz, Spike (with a vamp variant,) and one of The Gentlemen. They are set to be released in September 2014.

We’re not the only ones who celebrated Friday the 13th this week! Waxwork Records is releasing a brand new reissue of the Friday the 13th soundtrack, complete with some fantastic cover art by Jay Shaw. The new pressing will also include liner notes from F13 director Sean S. Cunningham and original composed Harry Manfredini.

In another pleasant Friday the 13th surprise, Anchor Bay has revealed their amazing cover art for the highly anticipated Halloween blu-ray box set due out later this year. The set will include 15 discs in total and is packed with never-before seen special features. You can pre-order the set, slated for a September 23rd release, through Amazon.

Scream Factory Announces Vincent Price Collection II Blu-ray Box Set

After the success of the first Vincent Price collection, Scream Factory has decided to release the Vincent Price Collection II box set! While there are no official release dates, Scream Factory states that it will be scheduled for an October 2014 release. The Last Man on Earth, The Comedy of Terrors, Dr. Phibes Rises Again, Tomb of Ligeria, The Raven, Return of the Fly and the House on Haunted Hill will be included. In the meantime, Scream Factory will be posting the cover art and pre-order link next month and the box set’s extras will be announced sometime this summer.

Syfy Announces the First Ever ‘Sharknado Week’

The leading purveyor of low-budget, awesomely bad creature features, the Syfy network has announced a full week of shark-centric programming all leading up to the premier of Sharknado 2: The Second One. Syfy has announced the line up, including Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark, Sharkmania: The Top 15 Biggest Bloodiest Bites, Sharknado 2: The Second One, and Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda. Sharknado week begins Saturday, July 26th at 9 p.m.
