Creepshow is an anthology film comprised of five segments and a wrap around story. It starts off with a young boy reading horror comics late at night in his bed when his father storms in takes the comic from him claiming it to be trash. This sets us up to be transported into the comic the boy was reading to start the anthology. Each story is saturated with awesome visuals, dark humor and death.

Creepshow is by far my favorite George A. Romero film. Don’t get me wrong, I love his zombie flicks (newest ones excluded) but for me his talent glows in this film. Creepshow is an anthology film written by horror master Stephen King and is told in the style of the old Weird/Tales From the Crypt comics. Each story has a life of its own and will suck the viewer in with its gruesome effects (done by Tom Savini) and dark humor.

The best thing about this film to me is that each story is so different from the last. Sure, some stories are weaker than others but they all have their own individual style. That’s why I think this is Romero’s best work. He is capable of so much but he has gotten sucked into the one style. My other favorite aspect of this film are the effects done horror legend Tom Savini. I am in love with practical effects and this movie definitely gives me my fill.

Each story has its own reason to frighten people but the last segment “They’re Creeping Up On You” scares me the most. It tells the tale of an old millionaire who has become a shut in and extreme germaphobe. Over all he is an absolute awful person and clearly the years of isolation has warped his mind even further. This particular night he begins seeing cockroaches all over his apartment and can’t seem to get rid of them. The ending to this segment has and will always make my skin crawl. Just thinking about it makes me want to take a shower and wrap myself in 20 layers of clothing.
