Watch the First Episode of Showtime’s PENNY DREADFUL Produced by Sam Mendes

One of the most promising summer television offerings headed our way is Showtime’s psychosexual horror series Penny Dreadful, and in advance of its official premiere, the pay cable network has put the full episode online in its entirety to watch for free.  Created by Skyfall scribe John Logan in collaboration with executive producer Sam Mendes, the show takes place in Victorian London and finds some of literature’s most terrifying characters crossing paths.

The show stars Eva Green, Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton, Reeve Carney, Billie Piper, Rory Kinnear, Harry Treadway, and Danny Sapani.  Penny Dreadful premieres on Showtime Sunday, May 11th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Penny Dreadful:

In PENNY DREADFUL, some of literature’s most famously terrifying characters – including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and iconic figures from the novel Dracula, all brilliantly reimagined in a whole new light – have become embroiled in Victorian London. The series stars Josh Hartnett (Black Hawk Down), Eva Green (Casino Royale) Timothy Dalton (The Living Daylights, Licence to Kill), Reeve Carney (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark), Rory Kinnear (Skyfall), Harry Treadaway (The Lone Ranger), Billie Piper (Doctor WhoSecret Diary of a Call Girl) and Danny Sapani (The Bill). PENNY DREADFUL is a drama series created, written and executive produced by John Logan (HugoThe AviatorGladiator) and executive produced by Logan’s Desert Wolf Productions, along with Oscar winner Sam Mendes (American BeautySkyfall) and Pippa Harris (Revolutionary RoadCall The Midwife), both of Neal Street. Of the eight episodes, the first two will be directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, who helmed The Orphanage and the acclaimed film, The Impossible starring Naomi Watts in her Oscar-nominated performance.
