Watch the First 15 Minutes of Syfy’s HELIX Before the Premiere

Posted on January 6, 2014 at 3:43 pm by Amanda Andonian

If you’ve been watching any cable TV lately, then you’ve probably seen the promos for Syfy’s new show, Helix. We got to see a sneak peek at the series during SDCC, and it definitely looked promising. Although Syfy has been slipping in the original programming department, it looks like they want to launch back into it full-force with Helix.

Centering around a disease outbreak in a remote Artic research facility, Helix will follow the CDC’s attempts at containing the outbreak. Unfortunately, what the response team doesn’t realize at first is that the disease was engineered by some meddling scientists, and it’s altering the human genome in terrifying ways. The show premieres this Friday, and Syfy has decided to try whetting our appetites by releasing the first 15 minutes of the pilot so that viewers can get a better idea of what to expect from the series. Without further ado, here’s the beginning of Helix.

I’m crazy about the love triangles that were so terribly forced into these first few minutes. In fact, most of the established relationships shown thus far seem a little forced, but the preview does paradoxically look a lot better than the TV promos made it seem. Hopefully once we get past the audience-ramp-up phase, the writing will settle into a less exposition-heavy rhythm. In any case, these first 15 minutes were enough to make me want to keep watching, if only to find out exactly what the deal is with this disease.

What do you guys think of Helix so far? Will you be tuning in for the full episode on Friday?

Helix premieres Friday, January 10 at 10/9c on Syfy.
