That Tomb Raider reboot you forgot existed just got some added momentum. When last we checked in on the picture in June 2013, MGM and producer Graham King had tapped Buffy the Vampire Slayer scribe Marti Noxon to pen the screenplay for the new video game adaptation. That was at least a bit promising in that a woman (and a talented one at that) would be the first one to shape the new iteration of this female-led franchise. Word on the film subsequently went quiet, but today we have two fairly significant updates: 1. Warner Bros. has signed on to produce the film alongside King’s GK Films and MGM, and 2. The movie has a new writer.

Deadline reports that Snow White and the Huntsman and Divergent scribe Evan Daugherty has been set to script the Tomb lara-crof-tomb-raider-600x375Raider reboot, with the report making no mention of the extent of Noxon’s contribution. This new film will apparently feature a younger Lara Croft than the one that was seen in the Angelina Jolie-fronted films, focusing on the explorer’s first adventure. Daugherty’s other credits include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the upcoming G.I. Joe 3.

But in the end it will come down to who is set to direct, and the addition of Warner Bros. as a partner on the film is at least a little promising. Apparently the project is on the fast track, so we could see more developments in the coming months.
