VACATION Remake “Indefinitely Delayed” Over Film’s Rating

Creative differences have left the Vacation remake crushed like the Griswald’s original station wagon. Writers/directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein (The Incredible Burt Wonderstone) had the reboot all set up with Ed Helms (The Hangover) set to star as Rusty Griswold, Christina Applegate (Anchorman) as his wife, and even cameos from the original parental couple, Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo.

As THR reports, Vacation has been delayed by the oft-cited creative differences. In this case, it’s apparently a disagreement over ratings. Their sources say:

“Some [want] to make a broader, PG-13 movie, while others want to keep it R-rated, like the original. One source says the delay will last only a few months, but others say the movie could be pushed to later this year.”

Those same sources don’t say just who is on which side of the fence, nor how much of an influence Warner Bros.–New Line’s corporate sibling that must greenlight its movies—was in the decision. Apparently the disagreement had been brewing, and on Friday, a decision was made to put a temporary hold on the picture’s development.
