Tyler’s Comic Corner – 9/9/15 Edition

Posted on September 9, 2015 at 5:30 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

A-Force #4
Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows #5
Civil War #4
Darth Vader #9
Giant-Size Little Marvel AvX #4
Journey To Star Wars The Force Awakens Shattered Empire #1 (Of 4)
Korvac Saga #4
Marvel Universe Avengers Assemble Season Two #11
Mrs Deadpool And The Howling Commandos #4
Ms Marvel #18
Planet Hulk #5
Quake S.H.I.E.L.D. 50th Anniversary #1
Red Skull #3 (Of 3)
Secret Wars 2099 #5 (Of 5)
Siege #3
True Believers Black Widow #1
True Believers Ms Marvel #1

Perfect Pulls: If you thought your Star Wars-related purchases all took place on Force Friday, you’d better break out that wallet again! Not only does Marvel have a new issue of the outstanding Darth Vader out today, but there’s also a new title on shelves as well, the rolls-off-the-tongue Journey to Star Wars The Force Awakens Shattered Empire #1, the first offering from Marvel based after Return of the Jedi. If Star Wars isn’t your thing (which makes no sense to me but I’m sure there must be one or two of you), you can certainly count on a Secret Wars tie-in fix as well. Some of the best and brightest are represented, and unfortunately, some of those are also ending, with both Secret Wars 2099 and Red Skull wrapping up today. They will be missed, but at least I can turn to Planet Hulk, Siege, Civil War and Renew Your Vows to console me!

bm44covDC Releases

Action Comics #44
All-Star Section 8 #4 (Of 6)
Arrow Season 2.5 #12
Batman #44
Batman Superman #24
Catwoman #44
Earth 2 Society #4
Fables The Wolf Among Us #9
Gotham Academy #10
Harley Quinn Road Trip Special #1
Justice League United #13
New Suicide Squad #12
Red Hood Arsenal #4
Scooby-Doo Where Are You #61
Starfire #4
Suiciders #6

Perfect Pulls: Right now, Batman and Batman Superman are easily my two favorite books coming out of DC, which makes it pretty delightful that they come out at the same time! This issue of Batman is of particular note; it’s technically a stand-alone issue, telling the origin of the newest Batman villain Mr. Bloom, but it also ties directly into the current goings-on in the Batman world. Jock is on art duties for this issue, and while I always miss Capullo when he’s not there, a Snyder/Jock team-up typically turns up its own brand of magic. In other words, grab this book today! Also this week, don’t miss out on another issue of the outstanding Action Comics, and the first meeting of Red Hood and Gordon Bats in Red Hood Arsenal #4, which I’m sure will go swimmingly!

hl1covImage Releases

Astronauts In Trouble #4
Bitch Planet #5
Bloodstrike #2
Deadly Class #16
Faster Than Light #1
Fuse #14
Head Lopper #1
Injection #5
Legacy Of Luther Strode #3
Mice Templar V Night’s End #5 (Of 5)
Outcast #12
Phonogram The Immaterial Girl #2 (Of 6)
Savior #6
Starve #4
Walking Dead #146
Wicked + The Divine #14

Perfect Pulls: I would have been happy with today’s Image lineup regardless of the new additions. Deadly Class and The Wicked + The Divine are two of my absolute favorite books coming out of Image right now, not to mention The Walking Dead, Bitch Planet and Fuse. However, it looks like Image has its hooks in me for two more books on top of those. Faster than Light is a pretty simple premise: humanity has finally unlocked FTL travel, and now we have to figure out what to do from here. However, while this premise may be simple, it’s one of my favorite things to daydream about, so I’m definitely excited to see Brian Haberlin’s take on this. Then, throw in Head Lopper, a ridiculous over-the-top fantasy book with killer art and a ludicrous story from Andrew MacLean. A first issue that’s got 80 pages of story, additional art galleries and a cover like the one you see above for only $5.99? You got me, Image… as always!

Zenescope Entertainment:
Grimm Fairy Tales Presents Robyn Hood #14

Perfect Pulls: Is that a new issue of the borderline-fan fiction Star Trek Green Lantern I see on this list? Now that Archie vs Predator is over, that book is easily my favorite guilty pleasure, so I can’t wait to read it! If you’re one of the many who are very excited about the return of Mirror’s Edge to the videogame world, you’ll definitely want to check out Dark Horse’s Mirror’s Edge Exordium, a new series that bridges the gap between the first game and its upcoming sequel, and tells the backstory of the main character Faith. Dark Horse always does their licenses justice, so this is a must-buy for any fan of the franchise. Also, be sure to check out the latest issue of Valiant’s Ninjak. This book has been great since its inception, but the current story arc has been extremely compelling, and a great time to jump in and see what all the Ninjak hype is about!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, September 9th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
