Tyler’s Comic Corner – 9/7/16 Edition

Posted on September 7, 2016 at 9:26 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

iim13covMarvel Releases

All-New All-Different Avengers #14
Daredevil #11
Deadpool And The Mercs For Money #3
Doctor Strange #11
Invincible Iron Man #13
Marvel Tsum Tsum #2 (Of 4)
Marvel Universe Avengers Ultron Revolution #3 (Of 4)
Max Ride Final Flight #1 (Of 5)
Moon Knight #6
Silk #12
Spidey #10
Squadron Supreme #11
Star Wars Poe Dameron #6
Uncanny X-Men #12

Perfect Pulls: Seeing a new issue of Invincible Iron Man on this list is so bittersweet to me! On the one hand, it’s a new issue of the first iteration of Iron Man’s solo offering that made me finally realize why so many people like this character. On the other, it’s one step closer to this book not being about Tony. However, one fact remains indisputable: I’m definitely going to enjoy the issue! Also this week, don’t miss out on another issue of Poe Dameron, the always-lovable Spidey, and a new issue of the only Avengers book worth reading, All-New All-Different Avengers.

cy1covDC Releases

Aquaman #6
Batman #6
Batman Beyond #16
Bloodlines #6 (Of 6)
Cyborg Rebirth #1
Everafter From The Pages Of Fables #1
Flintstones #3
Green Arrow #6
Harley Quinn #3
Justice League #4
Nightwing #4
Scooby-Doo Where Are You #73
Sheriff Of Babylon #10 (Of 12)
Supergirl #1
Superman #6
Unfollow #11

Perfect PullsRebirth returns this week with some of it’s biggest and best! As much as I haven’t loved it so far, I’m looking forward to seeing where Batman goes for its second arc. New issues of Green Arrow and Superman are guaranteed to put a smile on my face, and Nightwing has also been impressive so far. This week also sees the debut of the newest attempt at a solo Cyborg offering. As much as I feel there’s just no one out there who wants this book, and as much as sales numbers of the last solo series seem to back that up, I’m still optimistic this title will give us all a reason to care about a character DC really wants us all to love.

gb1covImage Releases

Beauty #10
Drifter #14
Eclipse #1
Faster Than Light #10
Fuse #21
Glitterbomb #1
Kill Or Be Killed #2
Midnight Of The Soul #4 (Of 5)
Nailbiter #25
Nowhere Men #11
Paper Girls #9
Red One #3
Revival #42
Sex #31
Walking Dead #158

Perfect Pulls: If there’s one thing Image does well, it’s horror comics, and today’s looks to be a real killer. Glitterbomb tells the tale of a middle-aged actress rapidly discovering youth has all the advantages in Hollywood, and her bitterness at the situation invites something terrible to use her as a vessel for revenge. This isn’t usually the type of book I read, but I’ve seen a couple short previews of this issue and I’ll definitely be checking it out. Image has done a great job lately at pointing out how downright awful celebrity culture truly is, and this looks to be another brutal addition to their lineup.

Perfect Pulls: This is a light week from the indies, but also has the debut of a number of cool new titles you may want to check out. I’m most looking forward to BOOM!’s Skybourne. Bringing Arthurian legend to modern times is always a good way to grab my attention. Now throw in Frank Cho on both writing and art and you’ve got me hooked. (Sorry folks, I know he’s “controversial,” but great art is great art no matter how mad you are at who makes it.) Dark Horse debuts their Hellboy-spinoff Rise of the Black Flame, and Oni’s Nights Dominion looks to be another solid fantasy comic, a genre I’m always happy to see grow. You may have thought you were saving money on the indies this week, but that may not be the case with all these cool new titles!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, September 7th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
