Posted on September 25, 2013 at 6:42 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

A+X #12
Avengers #20
Avengers Assemble #19
Deadpool #17
FF #12
Gambit #17
Guardians Of The Galaxy #6
Infinity Heist #1 (Of 4)
Nova #8

Scarlet Spider #22
Superior Spider-Man Team-Up #3
Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #27
Uncanny Avengers #12
Wolverine And The X-Men #36
Young Avengers #10

Perfect Pulls: The name of Marvel’s game today is “Infinity tie-ins,” but these show far more promise than the abysmal Infinity: The Hunt. The regular series tie-ins are expansive this week, with Avengers #20, Nova #8, and Avengers Assemble #19 all tied directly to the event. Guardians of the Galaxy #6 isn’t technically a tie-in, but the Guardians and Angela are both going to be important to the event, and they get introduced properly (meaning with their fists) in today’s issue. Also, it marks the addition of Neil Gaiman to the creative team! Along with the tie-ins comes a new minseries, Infinity Heist. Spymaster has gathered several villains to commit crimes only Thanos’ invasion could make possible, and I can only hope that this is a crime-buddy-drama the like of the amazing Superior Foes of Spider-Man. Finally, the awesome Battle of the Atom rolls on in Wolverine and the X-Men #36, which promises to reveal the fate of the All-New X-Men!

Batman #23.4 (Bane)
Batman And Robin #23.4 (Killer Croc)

Injustice Gods Among Us #9
Justice League #23.4 (Secret Society)
Justice League Of America #7.4 (Black Adam)
Superman #23.4 (Parasite)
Tom Strong And The Planet Of Peril #3 (Of 6)
Unwritten #53
Wake #4 (Of 10)
Wonder Woman #23.2 (First Born)

Perfect Pulls: The final week of Villains Month is dominated by great Batman rogues, which frankly is exactly as it should be. Bat-fans get introduced to the Joker’s Daughter, a solo for Man-Bat, a deeper look into Killer Croc’s new plans, and Bane finally takes centerstage in the New 52, which promises to lead in to the upcoming Forever Evil: Arkham War. Though the Bat-villains are having their day, that doesn’t mean there aren’t more exciting villains in the spotlight as well. Lantern fans like myself have been dying to get our hands on Sinestro’s one-shot, new Wonder Woman badass First Born gets his solo shot, and we finally see the New 52 iteration of Doomsday today as well. If Villains Month is over, it’s definitely going out with a bang!

Artifacts #31
East Of West #6
Fatale #17
Jupiter’s Legacy #3
Rat Queens #1
Revival #14
Saga #14
Sex #7
Sex Criminals #1
Todd The Ugliest Kid On Earth #5

Perfect Pulls: The Big Two may have their events going full-steam, but that doesn’t mean that Image is resting on its laurels. If anything, it’s just accumulating more! There are two new titles out of the indie-powerhouse this week that look awesome, and are sure to sell out immediately. First is Sex Criminals, the latest from superscribe Matt Fraction. Billed as a “sex comedy,” it tells the tale of a couple who have the same power: when they have sex, they stop time. So what else is one to do besides use that power to rob banks?! Also new from Image this week is Rat Queens, another comedy book, but in a completely different vein. The solicit describes the book as “like Buffy meets Tank Girl in a Lord of the Rings world on crack,” which I think sums it up quite nicely!

Perfect Pulls: This week, IDW has the biggest share of the spotlight with two new titles that both sound fantastic for completely different reasons. One of these new books is The Other Dead, a comic that frankly I can’t believe has taken this long to exist. The premise is simple: what if a zombie outbreak affected animals instead? If you think human zombies are a problem, imagine all the places animals can get into, and then imagine them all coming for your brains! On the completely opposite side of the coin, IDW is also bringing back the Powerpuff Girls! The girls that helped make the Cartoon Network a household name are back, and they’re immediately faced with problems from Mojo Jojo! Finally, Planet of the Apes fans won’t want to miss BOOM!’s Planet of the Apes Giant, and if you’ve been sleeping on Dark Horse’s Captain Midnight, it’s time to wake up!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, September 25th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
