Posted on September 24, 2014 at 12:01 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Perfect PullsOriginal Sin may be over, but the secrets keep coming this week in the pages of Guardians of the Galaxy #19. Last issue saw Star-Lord begin the story of just what happened when everyone thought he and Nova had died to kill Thanos, and while we haven’t seen the ending yet, it’s already clear this isn’t going to be pretty. Speaking of events, Spider-Verse rolls on with the latest Edge introducing us to what looks to be a robo-Spidey of some sort, while we continue the march to Axis in the pages of Magneto. Finally, X-fans get a bunch of mutant-friendly solo titles this week. Along with the aforementioned MagnetoCyclops, Deadpool and Storm all join in, and Savage Wolverine brings Logan fans one step closer to his inevitable demise.

Sinestro Futures End #1
Star-Spangled War Stories Featuring G.I. Zombie Futures End #1
Superman Doomed #2
Superman Futures End #1

Perfect Pulls: Futures End continues to dominate the DC solicits this week, this time with gems like Superman, Red Lanterns, Sinestro and Flash getting their tie-ins involved. This week also sees tie-ins that don’t have monthly books to go with them; Booster Gold and Star-Spangled War Stories rise from the grave to get involved in this time-hopping endeavor. Meanwhile, while fans who weren’t digging Futures End didn’t have much to chose from these past weeks, there are more individual titles from DC to help alleviate that. Along with the weekly staple that is Batman Eternal, this week also touches Batman past and future with both Batman ’66 and Batman Beyond Universe, gives you one last ride of Superman short stories in the final issue of Adventures of Superman, darkens the mood with the latest Sandman Overture, and even wraps up the Doomed storyline with Superman Doomed #2. There’s definitely something for everyone this week.

rl1covImage Releases

C.O.W.L. #5
Chew #43
Drumhellar #9
Low #3
Outcast #4
Roche Limit #1
Saga #23
Sex #16
Umbral #9
Voice In The Dark Get Your Gun #1 (Of 5)
Wayward #2

Perfect Pulls: Recently it seems as though Image is going out of its way to convince everyone that they do science fiction comics better than anyone else. More importantly, it’s working. Books like FUSE, Black Science, Low and others have all been outstanding, and Image looks to add another scifi hit to its roster today. This latest addition is Roche Limit, a world that sees a billionaires promise of space colonization come true. That colony, however, is less “promised land” and more “wretched hive of scum and villainy,” and I can’t wait to find out just how bad it is. The solicit promises fans of 2001 and Blade Runner should be tuning in, but really, do we need proof to feel confident in a new Image book? Just take my money!

Perfect Pulls: Conan the Barbarian is a timeless character that fans can’t seem to get enough of; at least, that’s what I’m learning from Dark Horse this week, as they drop three new Conan-related books in one single Wednesday. From the classic Savage Sword to the extremely unexpected Groo vs. Conan, the barbarian who would be king is well represented. Dark Horse also adds to their lengthy Aliens library with their latest mini Fire and Stone, which ties the Aliens and Prometheus universes together in a brutal crossover. Over at IDW, they’ve restarted their popular G.I.Joe with a new start in a world where Cobra has become an international peacekeeping force. Will the Joes have a reason to exist when Cobra isn’t a threat? Does anyone actually believe they aren’t a threat in the first place? We find out now! Finally, BOOM! Studios premiers Butterfly, an espionage book that the solicit promises fans of True Detective and House of Cards won’t want to miss.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, September 24th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
