Tyler’s Comic Corner – 9/14/16 Edition

Posted on September 14, 2016 at 10:38 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Spider-Man #8
Spider-Man 2099 #15
Star Wars The Force Awakens Adaptation #4 (Of 6)
Uncanny Avengers #14
Uncanny Inhumans #13

Perfect Pulls: Another week, another NCBD that doesn’t have a new issue of the main Civil War II title on this list! I haven’t gone poking through solicits to see if that was intentional, but either way, I’m getting that drawn-out Secret Wars feeling so many Marvel events seem to suffer through these days. However, we do see the end of a couple of the main tie-ins, both of which I’ve enjoyed. I’d be lying if I said they advanced the main story in any significant way, so if you don’t like the characters involved you really don’t need these in your life, but Spidey’s my guy and Herc is pretty cool so I’ve been enjoying both. Civil War II Ulysses is also your best option to see Karnak be Karnak right now, and that’s always worth the price of admission. There may not be a new issue of the main event, but with these tie-ins and killer books like Spider-Man and Old Man Logan on the list it’s still a good day for Marvel fans!

asb2covDC Releases

Action Comics #963
All-Star Batman #2
Astro City #38
Batgirl And The Birds Of Prey #2
Batman ’66 Meets Steed And Mrs. Peel #3 (Of 6)
DC Comics Bombshells #17
Deathstroke #2
Detective Comics #940
Doom Patrol #1
Earth 2 Society #16
Flash #6
Gotham Academy Second Semester #1
Green Lanterns #6
Hal Jordan And The Green Lantern Corps #4
Injustice Gods Among Us Year Five #17
New Super-Man #3
Red Hood And The Outlaws #2
Scooby Apocalypse #5
Suicide Squad #2
Superwoman #2
Teen Titans #24
Wonder Woman #6

Perfect Pulls: DC has two big returns today that couldn’t be on further ends of the spectrum. On the one hand, you have the return of Doom Patrol, a DC property that many classic fans never thought they’d see again. On the other, you have the return of Gotham Academy, possibly one of the best examples of the “new generation” of comics. Either fans, fans new and old should check out both, as they both promise to be significant to the bold new DC world we’re watching unfold. Also this week, there’s a new issue of the absolutely outstanding All-Star Batman. If you (like me) are having a hard time getting excited for Batman’s main book, believe me when I say this title will fill that hole in your comic-loving heart!

fix5covImage Releases

Birthright #19
Black Monday Murders #2
Black Science #24
Fix #5
Hadrian’s Wall #1 (Of 8)
Southern Cross #7
Spread #16
Stray Bullets Sunshine And Roses #18
Symmetry #7
Throwaways #3

Perfect Pulls: Hooray, there’s a new Fix this week! The Fix continues to be one of Image’s finest, and if you haven’t been paying attention to this book, this is a great point to jump on. A new story arc kicks off this week, where Roy apparently meets the Mayor. Fans of this book know from just that one sentence that absolutely nothing good can come of that; I can’t wait to find out just how bad it really is!

Perfect Pulls: Is it just me, or has Dark Horse been putting out quality new titles lately at a rate that would make even Image take notice? It seems like every week there’s at least one new Dark Horse offering worth mentioning, and this week is no exception. Fans of The Strain will want to check out their latest tie-in Mr. Quinlan, Vampire Hunter, and the Resident Alien series returns as well with The Man With No Name. Titan also has a ton of new releases this week, with their latest addition to their loaded Doctor Who library, a new Dark Souls tie-in, and the return of their original (and very good) Samurai series with Samurai: Brothers in Arms.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, September 14th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
