Tyler’s Comic Corner – 8/31/16 Edition

Posted on August 31, 2016 at 12:00 pm by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

sm7covMarvel Releases

All-New Wolverine Annual #1
Amazing Spider-Man #17
Astonishing Ant-Man #11
Carnage #11
Civil War II Choosing Sides #5 (Of 6)
Dark Tower The Drawing Of The Three Bitter Medicine #5 (Of 5)
Deadpool V Gambit #4 (Of 5)
Guardians Of The Galaxy #11
Howard The Duck #10
Hyperion #6
Marvel Universe Guardians Of The Galaxy #11
Ms. Marvel #10
Nova #10
Rocket Raccoon And Groot #8
Silver Surfer #6
Spider-Gwen #11
Spider-Man #7
Spider-Man 2099 #14
Star Wars Han Solo #3 (Of 5)
Thunderbolts #4
Uncanny Avengers #13
X-Men ’92 #6

Perfect Pulls: Comics really just don’t get much better than Spider-Man. Even the current arc of Amazing Spider-Man, which is firing on all cylinders, doesn’t capture the magic of the medium quite like Miles’ solo offering. I don’t know if it’s just how perfect this character really is, or Bendis’ talent for writing both superheroics and realistic family situations combining into a perfect storm, but you’ll notice the work perfect coming up a lot when I talk about this book. Even if you’re not typically a fan of guys in spandex that sling webs, do yourself a favor and start reading this book. It really doesn’t get much better than this. While you’re grabbing this, also be sure to look out for new issues of Han Solo, Hyperion, Ms. Marvel and the first annual for the stellar All-New Wolverine.

fq4covDC Releases

Art Ops #11
DC Comics Bombshells Annual #1
Earth 2 Society Annual #1
Future Quest #4
Gotham Academy Annual #1
Harley Quinn And Her Gang Of Harleys #5 (Of 6)
Justice League Of America #9
Legend Of Wonder Woman #9 (Of 9)
Suicide Squad War Crimes Special #1

Perfect PullsRebirth takes a week off today, as the twice-monthly train starts to rapidly derail. Seriously, DC… no one really wanted that, and you clearly can’t maintain it, so maybe it’s time to just officially go monthly? Regardless, this is a fantastic week to dive into Future Quest, which is so stupidly good it’s insane. I know you think I’m crazy, and you may be right, but I’m not wrong about this one. If you’ve ever loved a single character you see on the covers of these books, do yourself a favor and start reading this title. You’ll thank me, trust me!

ef1covImage Releases

Dream Police #11
East Of West #29
Eden’s Fall #1
Jupiter’s Legacy Volume 2 #3 (Of 5)
Lazarus #24
Postal #14
Saga #37
Sons Of The Devil #10
Spawn #265
Tokyo Ghost #10

Perfect Pulls: The latest from Image is a bit of a threesome, which is appropriate coming from a publisher with “sex” in the title of so many of their books. Eden’s Fall brings together characters from three popular Image titles: Postal, Think Tank, and The Tithe. It then makes sure all of them are happy and nothing bad happens to them whatsoever… ok, that’s probably not true. I’m sure terrible things will happen, but I’m also sure fans of any or all of those books will have a good time watching it go down!

Perfect Pulls: I’ve used this space countless times to tell you that IDW’s TMNT books are downright perfect. You all must be getting the message, because IDW is kicking off a brand-new monthly! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe is designed to delve deeper into not just the Turtles, but the other characters that make the world of TMNT so unique. This is a brand loaded with great support characters, so I’m thrilled to see them adding this to their lineup! Also this week, don’t miss out on the dramatic ending of Valiant’s 4001 A.D. event. When it comes to Valiant, the end of an event really DOES mean “nothing will be the same,” so you can count on this being a critical issue!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, August 31st. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
