Posted on August 22, 2012 at 4:00 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Marvel Releases

Amazing Spider-Man #692
Astonishing X-Men #53
Avenging Spider-Man #9
Brilliant #4
Captain America and Namor #635.1
Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe #4 (of 4)
Invincible Iron Man #523
Punisher #14
Secret Avengers #30
Supercrooks #4 (of 4)
Ultimates #14
Uncanny X-Men #17
Venom #23
Wolverine #312
Wolverine Annual #1
X-Men Legacy #272

Perfect Pulls: Lots of X-titles this week, which is never something to complain about. Both Punisher and Venom have new releases this week, books that have turned two of Marvel’s most one-dimensional characters into two of their most compelling. The final issue of Supercrooks also hits shelves, and the team of Millar and Yu is not to be missed.

DC Releases

All-Star Western #12
Batman Incorporated #3
Batman The Dark Knight #12
Before Watchmen: Dr. Manhattan #1 (of 4)
Fables #120
Flash #12
Fury of Firestorm #12
Green Lantern New Guardians #12
I, Vampire #12
Justice League Dark #12
Savage Hawkman #12
Superman #12
Teen Titans #12
Voodoo #12

Perfect Pulls: Batman Incorporated #3 makes its debut this week, the semi-controversial issue that was delayed due to the Aurora tragedy. Another Before Watchmen title premiers, and fans of the dark side of the DCU get another dose of of their Justice League as well as the sparkle-free and very good I, Vampire.

Image Releases

America’s Got Powers #3 (of 6)
Invincible #94
Planetoid #3
Super Dinosaur #13
Youngblood #73

Perfect Pulls: Good week for Kirkman fans young and old; the kids can squeal with glee over a new issue of Super Dinosaur, while the adults get one step closer to finding out who will die in Invincible #100. America’s Got Powers is a must-buy for anyone who loves a more realistic portrayal of how our society would react to capes and cowls. (Put them on TV, of course!)

Indie Releases

Dan the Unharmable #4 (Avatar)
Adventure Time #7 (BOOM!)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Spike – A Dark Place #1 (of 5) (Dark Horse)
Dragon Age: Those Who Speak #1 (of 3) (Dark Horse)
Star Wars: Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison #4 (of 5) (Dark Horse)
Danger Girl and The Army of Darkness #6 (0f 6) (Dynamite)
Vampirella #21 (Dynamite)
Cobra #16 (IDW)
Mars Attacks #3 (IDW)
Rocketeer Cargo of Doom #1 (of 4) (IDW)
Star Trek #12 (IDW)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13 (IDW)
Transformers: More than Meets the Eye #8 (IDW)

Perfect Pulls: Dark Horse flexes its licensing muscles this week, with strong showings and new offerings from some of their most popular and well-known lines. IDW does the same, and of particular note is a new issue of their impressive TMNT reboot. Whether you’re a Turtle fanatic or just curious how a story about mutant animals could be so compelling, you need to read this book; I personally guarantee you’ll walk away impressed.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, August 22nd. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
