Tyler’s Comic Corner – 8/19/15 Edition

Posted on August 19, 2015 at 6:00 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

hom1covMarvel Releases

1872 #2
Age Of Ultron Vs Marvel Zombies #3
Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows #4
Armor Wars #4
Captain Britain And The Mighty Defenders #2 (Of 2)
George Romero’s Empire Of The Dead Act Three #4 (Of 5)
Guardians Of Knowhere #3
Guardians Team-Up #10
House Of M #1
Howard The Human #1
Inferno #4
Kanan #5
Loki Agent Of Asgard #17
Runaways #3
Secret Wars Journal #4 (Of 5)
Secret Wars Secret Love #1
Silk #6
Spider-Verse #4
Star Wars #8
Weirdworld #3
X-Tinction Agenda #3

Perfect Pulls: I bet you thought all of the Secret Wars tie-ins that were fit to print had already done just that… but you would be wrong! There are three new additions to the already-packed lineup, and while I’d be lying if I said I was overwhelmingly excited for Howard the Human or Secret Wars Secret Love, the third offering has me exceptionally stoked! The House of Magnus returns in House of M, and I can not wait to see how Magneto at the height of his power fits into Doom’s grand scheme. Of course, those three new titles don’t mean there aren’t plenty of “old” ones as well. With new issues of books like Renew Your Vows, Secret Wars Journal, Spider-Verse, and more, plenty of your already-existing favorites are represented as well. Throw in two new Star Wars titles in Star Wars #8 and Kanan #5 and you’ve got yourself a killer day from Marvel!

jl43covDC Releases

Astro City #26
Batman Arkham Knight #7
Bizarro #3 (Of 6)
Black Canary #3
Doomed #3
Dr. Fate #3
Green Lantern The Lost Army #3
Harley Quinn And Power Girl #3 (Of 6)
Injustice Gods Among Us Year Four #8
Justice League #43
Justice League Gods And Monsters #2 (Of 3)
Martian Manhunter #3
Robin Son Of Batman #3
Secret Six #5
Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman #13
Superman Wonder Woman #20
Teen Titans Go #11
Wonder Woman #43

Perfect Pulls: It’s finally here! I’ve been on cloud nine since Justice League #42 revealed what has to be the coolest part of the Darkseid War event, no matter what else happens, and that’s Bat-God! Batman has become a New God, and if I need to explain to you why that is awesome, there’s something wrong with the fun part of your brain! This week’s Justice League #43 picks up right where the last left off, and I can’t wait to get more Bat-God goodness! Also this week, don’t miss out on new issues of Robin Son of Batman, Superman Wonder Woman, Green Lantern The Lost Army, Martian Manhunter… come to think of it, DC’s lineup is just as killer as Marvel’s today. It’s a good week for the Big Two!

Manifest Destiny #16
Mantle #4
Oddly Normal #9
Postal #6
Rat Queens #11
Revival #32
Savage Dragon #206
Stray Bullets Sunshine And Roses #7
Trees #12
Wolf #2

Perfect Pulls: Seeing a new issue of Manifest Destiny on the Image list is like seeing a good friend from across the room… you just can’t wait to shove through the crowd and see them up close, and that’s exactly how I feel about this book! Honestly, if it wasn’t for the presence of Bat-God in the new Justice League, Manifest Destiny would be the first book I read tomorrow, but you can count on it being #2! I’ve touted its merits here a dozen times, so if you’re not reading this book, stop doing yourself that disservice and get on it! And while you’re in that Image aisle, don’t forget your new copies of Birthright, Invincible, or Trees either!

Perfect Pulls: So much to love from the indies today! Valiant fans, today is a good day for all of us, with a double-does of Book of Death, the conclusion to the “Breaking Time” story arc in Ivar, Timewalker #8, and the return of Rai. Speaking of double-doses, TMNT fans also get one from IDW, with a new issue of the ongoing monthly, as well as a new offering in the animated universe, Amazing Adventures #1. Vampirella fans also get in on the action, with two new books featuring the titular lady badass from Dynamite. And, although I don’t normally highlight trades here at the Comic Corner, do yourself a favor and buy a copy of Legendary Comics’ Annihilator Volume 1. It’s one of Grant Morrison’s coolest books ever, and that’s some series praise!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, August 19th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
