Tyler’s Comic Corner – 8/17/16 Edition

Posted on August 17, 2016 at 8:39 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

CWIITF1covMarvel Releases

All-New Inhumans #10
All-New Wolverine #11
Black Widow #6
Captain America Sam Wilson #12
Civil War II Amazing Spider-Man #3 (Of 4)
Civil War II Choosing Sides #4 (Of 6)
Civil War II Gods Of War #3 (Of 4)
Civil War II X-Men #3 (Of 4)
Daredevil Punisher #4 (Of 4)
Fallen #1
Gwenpool #5
Mighty Thor #10
Mockingbird #6
Power Man And Iron Fist #7
Spider-Woman #10
Star Wars Poe Dameron #5
Ultimates #10
Uncanny Avengers #12
Web Warriors #10

Perfect Pulls: Last week saw the debut of the first Civil War II tie-in that actually mattered in The Accused. However, almost no one saw it, as it was poorly marketed and blind-solicited, resulting in many comic shops not even stocking the title. (Kind of hard to expect a comic shop to buy lots of issues of a comic you won’t tell them about, and won’t allow returns on. Just saying.) This week is the debut of The Fallen, the second tie-in that’s been given the same treatment. For what it’s worth, The Accused was fantastic, and legitimately added details about the overall Civil War II storyline I haven’t seen anywhere else. That being said, we have to go into The Fallen just as blindly as we went into The Accused, so I can’t assure you it’ll be just as good. However, you may want to look out for reviews on this one as well, because if it’s like The Accused, you won’t want to miss it.

SGR1covDC Releases

Aquaman #5
Batgirl And The Birds Of Prey #1
Batman #5
Doctor Fate #15
Green Arrow #5
Green Lanterns #5
Harley Quinn #2
Injustice Gods Among Us Year Five #16
Justice League #3
Legends Of Tomorrow #6
Nightwing #3
Scooby Apocalypse #4
Suicide Squad #1
Supergirl Rebirth #1
Superman #5
Teen Titans Go #17

Perfect Pulls: Supergirl is all over the news lately, with her show heading to the CW, crossing over with their other hits, and even introducing its own Superman. So needless to say, all eyes will be on DC’s Supergirl Rebirth #1, which looks to carve out Supergirl’s place in this brave new DC world. Two new titles also kick off today with Batgirl and the Birds of Prey and Suicide Squad both getting the start of their post-Rebirth one-shots debuts, and big hits like Green Arrow, Batman, and Aquaman also see new issues. I’m definitely getting used to having several DC books to look forward to every week, here’s hoping that keeps up!

dem1covImage Releases

Black Road #5
Demonic #1 (Of 6)
Descender #14
Horizon #2
Hunt #2
I Hate Fairyland #8
Manifest Destiny #22
Rumble #13
Spawn Kills Everyone #1
Throwaways #2
Wicked + The Divine #22

Perfect Pulls: Two new books from Image today, one with a familiar face and one making a full debut, though both will likely be filled with demons! In Demonic, we get the tale of a NYPD detective selling his soul to protect his family. Seems like a good idea at the time, but now we have to see how he deals with his own demons being more dangerous than the criminals he’s tasked to take down. Then we have Spawn Kills Everyone #1, in which Spawn opens up polite discourse with his enemies and finds peaceful solutions to their conflicts… or maybe just kills everyone. I guess we’ll find out today!

Valiant Entertainment:
Wrath Of The Eternal Warrior #10

Perfect Pulls: Love AMC TV shows like Sons of Anarchy or Justified? Get into the next big hit before it even starts filming by checking out Dark Horse’s Briggs Land #1. Already in development for AMC, the book tells the tale of the largest anti-government secessionist movement since the Civil War (no, not the Marvel ones!) and what it takes for one woman to run it once her husband is incarcerated. If it’s going to AMC, you know it’s going to be gritty and brutal, so reader discretion advised! Meanwhile, WWII fans will want to check out IDW’s Jackboot and Ironheel #1, and Valiant fans have the latest issue of the stellar Wrath of the Eternal Warrior to look forward to today.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, August 17th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
