Posted on August 14, 2013 at 12:01 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Wolverine And The X-Men #34

Perfect Pulls: Infinity is here! After almost a year of buildup in both Avengers and New Avengers (which, if you weren’t reading, you can get caught up on here and here), the biggest Marvel event of the year finally comes to a comic shop near you. Don’t let the Infinity excitement make you miss the other goings-on from Marvel, though. Spider-fans will want to grab both Scarlet Spider and Superior Spider-Man Team-Up, as they make up parts one and two of the epic Sibling Rivalry crossover against the Jackal. Meanwhile, X-fans will want to grab both Uncanny X-Men and Wolverine and the X-Men; the latter is the end of the Hellfire Saga, the former sees Scott lose control of his powers in the middle of LA, and both lead us right into Battle of the Atom.

Perfect Pulls: Zero Year continues to roll on with this week’s Batman #23, diving deeper into what made Bruce Wayne become the Bat in the New 52 universe, and brings us one step closer to understanding just how Gotham was at some point a post-apocalyptic wasteland! Also, the epic fight-fest Trinity War continues in JLA #7, getting us one step closer to whatever terrible event ends this war and brings us to Villains Month. Finally, for the small number of you who may have been reading them, both Demon Knights and Threshold see their final issues this week.

Lost Vegas #4 (Of 4)
Mind The Gap #12
Peter Panzerfaust #13
Saga #13
Savage Dragon #190

Walking Dead #113

Perfect Pulls: It’s that week of the month where Image comes out swinging with some of its heaviest hitters, and we all benefit from it. Hickman’s scifi/western/apocalytic mashup East of West continues to blaze new trails, the cerebral Peter Panzerfaust continues the heaviest Peter Pan reimagining ever, and Image stalwarts Spawn and Savage Dragon both get new issues of their books this week. Finally, Walking Dead fans get one step closer to All Out War, the next big event that Kirkman promises will be a “dark time” for the characters of the comic. You know, because the rest of the times for the characters has been so light and easy.

Perfect Pulls: Not many new offerings in the indie world this week, but there are a few that catch the eye, as well as several excellent ongoing series getting new releases. Dark Horse, masters of taking licenses and using them to make intense and compelling books, is set to do it again this week with Halo: Initiation. This books tells the story of Sarah Palmer, made famous as the Spartan commander in Halo 4, but who got her start as an ODST. Here we’ll find out why she made the switch. Also, IDW is bringing a classic Silver Age team a modern day finish, with the return of T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents. Don’t know who they are? Fear not; IDW is also published trades of the classic book as well. Be sure to catch new issues of indie stars X, Harbinger, Red Sonja and Deathmatch as well.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, August 14th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
