Tyler’s Comic Corner – 8/10/16 Edition

Posted on August 10, 2016 at 12:00 pm by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

CWIITA1covMarvel Releases

A-Force #8
Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. #8
All-New All-Different Avengers #13
All-New All-Different Avengers Annual #1
All-New X-Men #12
Amazing Spider-Man #16
Black Panther #5
Civil War II – The Accused #1
Daredevil #10
Darth Vader #24
Deadpool And The Mercs For Money #2
Empress #5 (Of 7)
Old Man Logan #10
Scarlet Witch #9
Spider-Man 2099 #13
Spider-Man Deadpool #8
Vision #10

Perfect Pulls: While the Civil War II tie-ins have really left a lot to be desired, today features a new one I’m willing to be will be worth the cover price. Civil War II: The Accused #1 details the reactions across the Marvel U to the death of Bruce Banner at the hands of another hero. And while other tie-ins have been lackluster, this book is a stand-alone one-shot, which leads me to believe it’ll be significantly more substantial than many of the others have been. Here’s hoping I’m right! We also get a double-dose of the best Avengers book coming out of Marvel right now, with both a new issue and an annual for All-New All-Different Avengers, and you can never have too much of a good thing!

ASB1covDC Releases

Action Comics #961
All-Star Batman #1
Deathstroke Rebirth #1
Detective Comics #938
Earth 2 Society #15
Flash #4
Flintstones #2
Hal Jordan And The Green Lantern Corps #2
MAD Magazine #541
New Super-Man #2
Red Hood And The Outlaws #1
Suicide Squad Most Wanted El Diablo And Boomerang #1 (Of 6)
Superwoman #1
Wonder Woman #4

Perfect Pulls: What is easily the most anticipated Rebirth title of them all finally hits shelves today! All-Star Batman #1 is the start of a new title that pair Scott Snyder’s writing with a blockbuster list of artists, each telling an individual story arc. Considering the first issue features art from JRJR and Declan Shalvey, right out of the gate you know you’re getting killer work from some of the best in the business. The rest of the current Bat-books have left me intrigued but not thrilled, so I’m really excited to dive into this book. I suspect I will adore it! I’m also excited to get a new issue of a book I was genuinely surprised by. The first issue of New Super-Man was a really pleasant surprise, and has me hooked; here’s hoping that continues in today’s new issue!

BMM1covImage Releases

Birthright #18
Black Monday Murders #1
Elephantmen #72
Ringside #6
Spread #15
Symmetry #6

Perfect Pulls: Image has a short list today, but the new face in that lineup is a big one. Black Monday Murders combines the already shady world of banking cartels with the always shady world of magic, to create a world where Hogwarts meets Wall Street in the worst way possible. Comics attacking the 1% are becoming extremely popular right now, but even if you’re feeling a bit of fatigue from that genre at the moment, I’d still keep this one on your radar. This is the kind of story that plays to Hickman’s strengths (of which there are many), so you won’t want to miss it!

Perfect Pulls: The indie lists are pretty short today, but there’s definitely good stuff to be had! Valiant fans won’t want to miss new issues of Ninjak and A&A, fans of the hit show Sons of Anarchy get a new comic spinoff from BOOM! Studios, and Titan has Doctor Who fans more than covered with three of their series all have new issues on stands today. The lists may be short, but they’re still pretty loaded!
