Posted on July 31, 2013 at 12:01 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Daredevil #29
Fearless Defenders #7

Guardians Of The Galaxy #5

Uncanny X-Force #9
Uncanny X-Men #9

Wolverine In The Flesh #1
X-Men #3
X-Men Legacy #14

Perfect Pulls: A new era begins in the Marvel U, as Neil Gaiman oversees Angela’s true premier in the pages of Guardians of the Galaxy #5. Although we got to see her briefly at the end of Age of UltronGotG #5 serves as her proper introduction, and by proper introduction I mean she’s probably going to kick the Guardians’ collective ass! This week also sees the conclusion to What If AvX, which proves it could have been a much deadlier event, as well as yet another Wolverine series, this one pairing him with… famous chef Chris Cosentino? Yea, sure, why not…

batmaninc13coverDC Releases

Adventures Of Superman #3
Animal Man Annual #2
Batman Annual #2
Batman Incorporated #13
Batman Year Zero #1 (Director’s Cut Edition)
Collider #1
Detective Comics Annual #2
Flash Annual #2
Injustice Gods Among Us #7
Red Lanterns #22
Smallville Season 11 Special #2
Superboy #22
Superman Annual #2
Tom Strong And The Planet Of Peril #1 (Of 6)
Trinity Of Sin Pandora #2
Wake #3 (Of 10)

Perfect Pulls: Today is an extremely bittersweet days for fans of Grant Morrison’s epic run on all things Batman. On one hand, we’re finally getting the conclusion to the entire epoch, with what promises to be a thrilling final issue that Morrison says everyone will hate. On the flip side, this means it’s all over! There aren’t many writers who have defined a character the way Morrison has with Batman, and I for one will be very sad to see it end. This week sees a new book starting as well, another unique new Vertigo title the like of The Wake (which also has a new issue this week). Collider follows the government agency in charge of handling the world’s newest problem: physics. Things aren’t working the way they used to, and the Federal Bureau of Physics is here to deal with it the best they can. Also, if you haven’t cared too much about this book, Guy Gardner is now the leader of the Red Lanterns. If you were ignoring Red Lanterns before, you might want to stop doing that!

Five-Ghosts-5-Phantom-VariantImage Releases

Bedlam #8
Five Ghosts The Haunting Of Fabian Gray #5 (Of 5)
It Girl And The Atomics #12
Morning Glories #29
Sex #5
Youngblood #78

Perfect Pulls: Although not as painful to see go as Batman Incorporated, Image also has a book ending today that I’ll be sad to see go. Five Ghosts: The Haunting of Fabian Gray has been a fantastic miniseries, with a cool premise, fantastic art and equally fantastic writing. I have a strong suspicion that this won’t be the last we see of Fabian Gray, but either way, make sure you check out this book in trade paperback if you haven’t been reading it. Also, we get a new issue of Sex; this book started strong but has started to waver, hopefully this issue picks it back up!

Valiant Entertainment:
No releases this week.

Perfect Pulls: Surprisingly light week from the indies, particularly from Dynamite; I can’t think of a time where I compiled this list and only had one Dynamite title on it. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some books to make sure you grab! Dark Horse’s Captain Midnight looks particularly awesome. A superhero in the forties, Captain Midnight disappeared into the Bermuda Triangle, and has returned in modern day to a less-than-thrilled reception. Now on the run, can this hero make sense of this new life? Also, BOOM! has a new title this week, by the name of 3 Guns, the sequel to 2 Guns, which is getting the “major motion picture” treatment!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, July 31st. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
