Tyler’s Comic Corner – 7/22/15 Edition

Posted on July 22, 2015 at 5:30 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

oml3covMarvel Releases

All-New Hawkeye #4
E Is For Extinction #2
Future Imperfect #3
Kanan #4
Loki Agent Of Asgard #16
Magneto #20
Marvel Zombies #2
Old Man Logan #3
Punisher #20
Spider-Woman #9
Star-Lord And Kitty Pryde #1
Uncanny X-Men #35
Weirdworld #2

Perfect Pulls: Another week, another Hawkeye that seems really out of place in the current Marvel Universe! After (finally) getting the conclusion to the Fraction/Aja Hawkeye, this week sees the latest issue of the Lemire/Perez All-New Hawkeye, another Hawkeye-related title that doesn’t fit whatsoever in the current Marvel U, but is good enough that none of us really seem to care. Some of the best of Secret Wars tie-ins also get some love today, with E Is For Extinction, Marvel Zombies, and the gloriously good Old Man Logan all with new issues. And, since I’m starting to get seriously concerned about whether he’ll still be around after Secret Wars, be sure to grab Punisher #20 (and the other 19 issues if you haven’t already) and enjoy an outstanding run showcasing some of Frank Castle’s worst, which when it comes to the Punisher is actually his best!

cyb1covDC Releases

Aquaman #42
Batman ’66 #25
Cyborg #1
Deathstroke #8
Effigy #7
Flash #42
Gotham By Midnight #7
Grayson #10
Harley Quinn And Power Girl #2 (Of 6)
Injustice Gods Among Us Year Four #6
Justice League 3001 #2
Justice League Gods And Monsters Batman #1
Prez #2 (Of 12)
Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman #12
Sinestro #13
Teen Titans #10
We Are Robin #2
Wonder Woman #42

Perfect Pulls: This week, history is made as Cyborg kicks off the very first solo book he’s ever had. To be honest, I can’t say I’m surprised, but Cyborg is about as interesting as he’s ever been since the New 52 kickoff, so this may be worth checking out. If you’re counting the days until DC’s next animated feature Gods and Monsters, you’ll want to check out Justice League Gods and Monsters Batman #1, the first of a series of prequels based in the same world. Add those together with new issues of great books like Aquaman, Deathstroke, Grayson, We Are Robin and Sinestro and you’ve got a mighty fine week from DC!

wolf1covImage Releases

68 Last Rights #1 (Of 4)
Birthright #9
C.O.W.L. #11
Egos #8
Five Ghosts #17
IXth Generation #4
RunLoveKill #4
Sidekick #11
Sons Of The Devil #3
Stray Bullets Sunshine And Roses #6
Valhalla Mad #3
Wolf #1

Perfect Pulls: The latest addition to the Image lineup this week is Wolf from Ales Kot and Matt Taylor. With a solicit that promises it to be a cross between True Detective and Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, this title combines a paranormal detective with no reason to live with a teenage orphan who may or may not be the key to stopping (or maybe starting?) the Apocalypse. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a more Image-style pitch in my life, so I suspect this one may be worth the cover price, especially since the first issue is a whopping 58 pages with no ads and only a dollar over standard cover price. Classy move, Image!

Perfect Pulls: Ok, so I thought for sure that Archie vs Predator was guaranteed to be the most ridiculous title I saw published this year. (Of which, I might add, the final issue hits stands today.) However, they’ve actually found something that manages to be even more outside-the-box than pitting Archie against an intergalactic hunter… pitting Archie against a tornado full of sharks! That’s right, folks… it’s Archie vs Sharknado! Unlike AvP, this is actually a one shot, standalone title… which tells me everybody in Riverdale is doomed to be shark food. Also this week, don’t miss out on the latest chapter in Valiant’s Book of Death event, Fall of Bloodshot… wait, I don’t want to promote that, he’s my favorite Valiant character! I mean, I’m sure he’s ok in the end… right?!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, July 22nd. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
