Tyler’s Comic Corner – 7/20/16 Edition

Posted on July 20, 2016 at 5:12 pm by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

anw10covMarvel Releases

A-Force #7
All-New Inhumans #9
All-New Wolverine #10
Astonishing Ant-Man #10
Black Widow #5
Contest Of Champions #10
Darth Vader #23
Deadpool And The Mercs For Money #1
Guardians Of Infinity #8
Nighthawk #3
Nova #9
Patsy Walker A.K.A. Hellcat #8
Spider-Man #6
Spider-Man Deadpool #7
Squadron Supreme #9
Star Wars #21
Thunderbolts #3
Ultimates #9
Uncanny X-Men #10

Perfect Pulls: It’s a pretty calm day as far as Civil War II is concerned, we’ll have to assume that’s to take a breather from the arrow-to-the-face that was last week’s Civil War II #3. I mean, to be fair, a lot of these books probably have a Civil War II banner on their cover, but it’s been my experience so far that that means nothing in so much as story relevance. You definitely shoudln’t feel any overwhelming need to pick up other titles you wouldn’t normally buy for event purposes. That said, there are definitely some killer books you should be buying out today, like Spider-Man, All-New Wolverine, Ultimates, and the two must-have Star Wars books Star Wars and Darth Vader. (Those definitely have nothing to do with Civil War II.)

jl1covDC Releases

Adventures Of Supergirl #6
Aquaman #3
Astro City #37
Batgirl And The Birds Of Prey Rebirth #1
Batman #3
Clean Room #10
Green Arrow #3
Green Lanterns #3
Hellblazer Rebirth #1
Injustice Gods Among Us Year Five #14
Justice League #1
Legends Of Tomorrow #5
Lucifer #8
New Suicide Squad #22
Scooby Apocalypse #3
Superman #3

Perfect Pulls: Some new arrivals appear in the Rebirth lineup! Actual Rebirth titles include the fan-favorite Batgirl and the Birds of Prey, while Hellblazer Rebirth finds a place for Constantine in this new world. I suspect his book is going to peel back the layers of what’s going on, so you may not want to skip this one. (But don’t blame me if I’m wrong!) I’m also cautiously optimistic for Justice League #1. I was sorely disappointed with Bryan Hitch’s Justice League Rebirth, but I’m also a huge Tony Daniel fan, so I’m going to be in for this book for that alone.

hunt1covImage Releases

Axcend #5
Black Road #4
Casanova Acedia #6
Chew #56
Hunt #1
I Hate Fairyland #7
Island #9
Lazarus #23
Manifest Destiny #21
Prophet Earth War #5 (Of 6)
Rumble #12
She Wolf #2
Snotgirl #1
Think Tank Creative Destruction #4
Velvet #15
Wolf #9

Perfect Pulls: One of Image’s new books this week just grosses me out, but the other looks pretty cool, and I’ll guess it’s pretty obvious which is which! Hunt puts a modern spin on Irish mythology with a tale of a dreamworld blending with our own, and it’s more nightmares than happy places. There’s also new issues of books like Rumble and my podcast partner’s personal favorite, I Hate Fairyland, to help get your Image fix.

Perfect Pulls: There was quite a pleasant surprise on Dynamite’s list for me today! I really enjoyed Garth Ennis’ Red Team, a badass cops-become-vigilantes miniseries Dynamite published a couple years ago. I didn’t think we’d get a sequel, but today marks the premier of Red Team: Double Tap, Center Mass, and I can’t wait to see what crap the survivors of the first series get into next! Valiant fans also won’t want to miss the premier of Faith’s newest series, because there’s no one on earth who doesn’t like Faith!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, July 20th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
