Tyler’s Comic Corner – 7/15/15 Edition

Posted on July 15, 2015 at 4:07 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

ts1covMarvel Releases

Ant-Man Annual #1
Armor Wars #3
Captain Britain And The Mighty Defenders #1 (Of 2)
Captain Marvel And The Carol Corps #2
Dark Tower The Drawing Of The Three House Of Cards #5 (Of 5)
Guardians Of Knowhere #1
Hail Hydra #1
Hawkeye #22
Inhumans Attilan Rising #3
Korvac Saga #2
Moon Knight #17
Planet Hulk #3
Secret Wars Battleworld #3 (Of 4)
Siege #1
Silver Surfer #13
Where Monsters Dwell #3 (Of 5)
Years Of Future Past #3

Perfect Pulls: Is it true? Can it be? Is that Hawkeye #22 on this list? Hell is surely a block of ice, and the skies must be filled to the brim with airborne pigs. On the Secret Wars front, several new books join the already loaded tie-in lineup today. I’m particularly looking forward to Siege; this title appears to focus on those who work to protect the The Shield, which is one of the most interesting parts of Battleworld. It’s also written by Kieron Gillen, so that’s now a must-buyAlso, the conspicuously absent Guardians finally reappear in Guardians of Knowhere, and I can’t wait to see where they fit into Doom’s happy little world.

mm2covDC Releases

Astro City #25
Black Canary #2
Doomed #2
Dr Fate #2
Green Lantern The Lost Army #2
Harley Quinn #18
Justice League #42
Martian Manhunter #2
Robin Son Of Batman #2
Secret Six #4
Superman Wonder Woman #19

Perfect Pulls: There may not be a massive list from DC, but there’s a lot to like nonetheless. Of course, new issues of titles like Justice League and Superman Wonder Woman is always something to look forward to, but this week also houses some of the coolest of the DC You titles so far. Of course I’m talking about Robin Son of Batman most of all, but also make sure you don’t miss out on Green Lantern The Lost Army, as they’ve promised that book will have major implications going forward. And I’m particularly excited about a new issue of Martian Manhunter, as the first was impressive and I’m always happy to see J’onn in the spotlight!

ti1covImage Releases

Astronauts In Trouble #2
Drifter #6
Elephantmen #65
Empty #5
Empty Zone #2
Invincible #121
Island #1
Mantle #3
Postal #5
Revival #31
Reyn #6
Roche Limit Clandestiny #3
Secret Identities #6
Skullkickers #33
Trees #11

Perfect Pulls: I wish I could tell you all about Image’s newest release, The Island, but I can’t. Sure, I know that it’s a collaboration between Emma Rios and Brandon Graham. I know that it promises a compilation of some of the biggest and best talent in comics, and I know that it’s a monthly oversized book, weighing in at a hefty 72 pages every month. What I don’t know is simple… what’s it about? So far as I’ve seen, no plot or theme details have been revealed, so I guess they’re relying on the creative team to sell us on this… and knowing Image, it probably will.

Perfect Pulls: The next big thing to hit the Valiant Universe begins today! It’s been teased for months, but finally Book of Death is here, and I can’t wait to find out what terrible things are about to happen to my favorite Valiant heroes this time! If you’re a completionist, make sure you hit your shop early: Legends of the Geomancer is an incentive title only sent based on Book of Death #1 orders, it won’t be made available digitally or be collected in trade, and promises to reveal the true past of the Geomancers. In other words, no jury will convict you for trampling people to get yours! Also this week, IDW’s sends the King of the Monsters down below with Godzilla in Hell, Dark Horse premiers a new supernatural horror title in Death Head #1, and Avatar and Kieron Gillen’s latest partnership begins in the scifi epic Mercury Heat.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, July 15th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
