Tyler’s Comic Corner – 7/13/16 Edition

Posted on July 13, 2016 at 8:50 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

CWII3covMarvel Releases

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. #7
All-New X-Men #11
Civil War II #3 (Of 7)
Civil War II Amazing Spider-Man #2 (Of 4)
Civil War II Choosing Sides #2 (Of 6)
Civil War II Gods Of War #2 (Of 4)
Daredevil #9
Dark Tower The Drawing Of The Three Bitter Medicine #4 (Of 5)
Deadpool #15
Guardians Of The Galaxy #10
Gwenpool #4
Marvel Universe Guardians Of The Galaxy #10
New Avengers #13
Old Man Logan #8
Power Man And Iron Fist #6
Rocket Raccoon And Groot #7
Silk #10
Vision #9
Web Warriors #9

Perfect Pulls: If you thought Civil War II was content with only killing one Avenger, you thought wrong! Today’s Civil War II #3 drops another character into the grave, and as the body count rises, the rift between the heroes grows. Along with the flagship title, there are also a slew of new Civil War II tie-ins this week, ranging from the interesting (Amazing Spider-Man) to the dubious in quality (Choosing Sides), so spend your cash wisely. This event is definitely starting to ramp up, and while I still can’t decide if I’m really enjoying the ride so far, I am definitely interested in just how much damage it will cause the Marvel Universe considering how deadly it’s been so far. Start placing your bets on who dies next!

HJGLCRB1covDC Releases

Action Comics #959
Dark And Bloody #6 (Of 6)
DC Comics Bombshells #15
DC Universe Rebirth #1
Detective Comics #936
Earth 2 Society #14
Flash #2
Hal Jordan And The Green Lantern Corps Rebirth #1
Legend Of Wonder Woman #8 (Of 9)
New Super-Man #1
Nightwing Rebirth #1
Scooby-Doo Where Are You #71
Wacky Raceland #2
Wonder Woman #2

Perfect Pulls: Finally, the Green Lantern-related book I’ve been waiting for is here! After last week’s Green Lanterns #2 made me decide to drop the book, I’m desperately hoping that Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps is a book I can fall in love with. I don’t want to live in a world where I’m not pulling anything from Oa! I’m also very excited to see Dick Grayson back behind the mask in Nightwing Rebirth #1. While I enjoyed Grayson and the unique take on the character post-Forever Evil, I’m very much ready to have one of my favorite Bat-family members back where he belongs. I’m also intrigued by today’s New Super-Man #1, the first real introduction of a brand-new player in the DCU since Rebirth kicked off. It might not be a hit, but Rebirth has made me like so many characters I don’t usually pay attention to that I have to give this a shot!

h1covImage Releases

Birthright #17
Descender #13
Horizon #1
Millarworld Annual 2016 #1
Mirror #5
Morning Glories #50
Violent #5
Wicked + The Divine #21

Perfect Pulls: Today’s Image list is shorter than the last few weeks, but still loaded with great titles. Along with new issues of some of Image’s finest, like Birthright, Wicked and Divine and Descender comes their latest title, Horizon. Horizon looks to flip the script on the standard “aliens want to occupy Earth” trope by making us the invading aliens this time, desperate to occupy another world for ourselves. While it’s not an unheard-of premise, everyone knows Image loves books that take a familiar idea in a brand new direction, so this one should be worth checking out!

Perfect Pulls: There’s a ton of new books from the indies this week, and they definitely cross the spectrum! Kicking it off is IDW’s latest licensed offering from the world of Cartoon Network, this time with quite possibly their most popular brand… The Powerpuff Girls! The classic cartoon that was so much better than it had any right to be is now back in comic form, and considering how great other IDW books in the same vein have been, this is a must-buy for fans of the show. Conan fans will want to jump on Dark Horse’s Conan the Slayer #1, which pairs the barbarian badass with acclaimed writer Cullen Bunn. And fans of classic TV and movie brands have new books to look forward to as well, with BOOM! unveiling an official prequel to the upcoming Kong of Skull Island and Dynamite kicking off their latest Six Million Dollar Man series.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, July 13th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
