Tyler’s Comic Corner – 7/1/15 Edition

Posted on July 1, 2015 at 5:00 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

rs1covMarvel Releases

A-Force #2
Amazing Spider-Man #19.1
Darth Vader #7
Future Imperfect #2
Giant-Size Little Marvel AvX #2
Groot #2
Guardians Team-Up #7
Princess Leia #5 (Of 5)
Red Skull #1 (Of 3)
Secret Wars #4 (Of 8)
Secret Wars Journal #3 (Of 5)
Ultimate End #3 (Of 5)
Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #7
X-Tinction Agenda #2
Years Of Future Past #2

Perfect Pulls: This week is all about the Secret Wars tie-ins, with books ranging from the death of a universe in Ultimate End, to the short stories of Secret Wars Journal, to the adorable Giant-Size Little Marvel AvX. However, a new title enters the mix, and this one really has my curiosity piqued. Red Skull #1 is all about one of the most random teams I’ve ever seen hunting Battleworld’s Deadlands in search of the Red Skull, who may or may not be alive. This book had me hooked from the cover (that team is ludicrous!), and I can’t wait to see what they find. Oh, and did I forget to mention Secret Wars #4? Yup, this is an awesome week for Secret Wars fans!

gl42covDC Releases

Action Comics #42
American Vampire Second Cycle #8
Batman Arkham Knight #6
Batman Beyond #2
Bat-Mite #2 (Of 6)
Bizarro #2 (Of 6)
Detective Comics #42
FBP Federal Bureau Of Physics #22
Flash Season Zero #10
Green Arrow #42
Green Lantern #42
He-Man The Eternity War #7
Lobo #8
Midnighter #2
Mortal Kombat X #8
Omega Men #2
Scooby-Doo Team-Up #11
Vertigo Quarterly SFX #2

Perfect Pulls: There are a lot of things going on in this new “DC You” era that I love. From BatGordon to t-shirt Superman, big changes are happening, and so far they’ve been a blast to read. However, one of the changes I love most is taking place in the pages of Green Lantern. This “renegade Hal” storyline is outstanding, and Billy Tan’s art has hit an all-time high… renegade Hal  looks so badass! Throw in new issues of Midnighter, Detective Comics and He-Man The Eternity War and this is an awesome week from DC!

wsog1covImage Releases

Punks The Comic CBLDF Special
Satellite Sam #15
We Stand On Guard #1
Wicked + The Divine #12
Zero #18

Perfect Pulls: There are two new Image books out this week that couldn’t be more different from each other. On the one hand, we have 8house Arclight #1, which promises a wide-spread fantasy world involving alien dopplegangers, something referred to as “genderqueer knights,” and a goose. No, seriously, go read the solicit. It’s probably the least persuasive solicit I’ve ever read. On the flip side, there’s We Stand on Guard #1, based in a world 100 years in our future where a band of Canadian freedom fighters has to do battle against the invading USA and their army of giant robots. Now that’s a book I can get behind!

Fans of the classics get to see two comic icons return today, though they couldn’t be more different. From Dynamite, celebrate the 75th anniversary of Will Eisner’s The Spirit with a brand new ongoing series! On the flip side, Dark Horse is also the home of a new spin on a familiar face, with Barb Wire #1, now with 100% less Pamela Anderson! Looking something with a scifi vibe? Than you’re going to want to check out Spire #1 from BOOM! Studios. And if you’re looking for laughs, Dynamite also has you covered there, too, with the premier of Bob’s Burgers #1.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, July 1st. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
