Tyler’s Comic Corner – 7/10 Edition

Posted on July 10, 2013 at 12:01 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Superior Spider-Man 13_coverMarvel Releases

Astonishing X-Men #64
Avengers Arena #12
Daredevil #28
Fearless Defenders #6
Hawkeye #12
Indestructible Hulk #10
Secret Avengers #6
Superior Spider-Man #13
Ultimate Comics The Ultimates #27
Uncanny X-Men #8
Wolverine #6
Young Avengers #7

Perfect Pulls: The spotlight is definitely on Superior Spider-Man #13 when it comes to this week’s Marvel releases, and that isn’t just because it’s a pretty light week. This marks the end of the No Escape story arc, which has been one of the heaviest yet since the death of Peter, and is also the springboard for major changes to the title. A new costume, a crossover with Scarlet Spider, and tie-ins with Infinity all stem from the conclusion of this issue, so if you’ve stuck with this book like I have I suspect we’re about to get our payoff. Also, a double-dose of DD this week, with Daredevil #28 starting a new story arc, while Indestructible Hulk #10 continues the Hulk/Daredevil crossover. Finally, the always-exceptional Uncanny X-Men has a new issue this week, teasing Cyclops vs. Magneto, so that sounds pretty much guaranteed to be great.

bm221DC Releases

Astro City #2
Batgirl #22
Batman #22
Batman Arkham Unhinged #16
Batman Li’l Gotham #4
Demon Knights #22
Green Lantern Corps #22
Justice League #22
Katana #6
Nightwing #22
Smallville Season 11 #15
Suicide Squad #22
Superman Unchained #2
Threshold #7
Worlds’ Finest #14

Perfect Pulls: It’s my favorite week of the month, the week DC’s releases are dominated by Batman-related books! Of course, all of them fall in the shadow of Batman #22, continuing the epic tale of Batman’s New 52 origin. However, that doesn’t mean you should miss out on Arkham Unhinged if you love the games or the adorable Lil’ Gotham, or on Nightwing for that matter, which is starting to come into it’s own now that Dick is in Chicago. Also, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the flagship Superman Unchained from Snyder and Lee sees its second issue today, which I imagine will be just as explosive as the first.

68 Jungle Jim #4 (Of 4)
America’s Got Powers #6 (Of 7)
Chew #35
Darkness #114
Dawn The Swordmaster’s Daughter And Other Stories (One-Shot)
East Of West #4
Ghosted #1
Great Pacific #8
Peter Panzerfaust #12
Savage Dragon #189
Sheltered #1
Storm Dogs #6 (Of 6)
Walking Dead #112

Perfect Pulls: Two new titles from Image this week, as well as a new issue in one of their very best books. The two new series are Sheltered, featuring a post-apocalyptic world where the kids have turned on the adults, with Ghosted, a paranormal crime drama where a master criminal is tasked with stealing a ghost. Both sound unique and intense, so clearly they’re Image books. Speaking of Image’s finest, the Dark Tower-esque East of West has another issue out as well, and this book may be the very best of all the quality offerings the indie powerhouse has.

BOOM! has a new Adventure Time book, this time a crime mystery staring Peppermint Butler and Cinnamon Bun. (That must be a really confusing sentence if you don’t watch that show.) Also, a Valiant legend returns with a new Quantum and Woody ongoing series, and yes, there will be goats. Or at least a goat.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, July 10th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
