Posted on June 5, 2013 at 7:40 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Winter Soldier #19
X-Factor #257

Perfect Pulls: This week is a massive week from Marvel, filled with all sorts of important books you’d be crazy to miss. First up is the penultimate issue of Age of Ultron, which appears to involve Wolverine traveling back in time to kill the Wolverine that traveled back in time to kill Hank Pym to prevent him from creating the Ultron that traveled forward in time to kill everyone. Oh time travel, you so crazy. Along with Marvel NOW’s wackiest crossover comes issues from several of the best NOW titles, including Avengers, Avengers Arena, All-New X-Men, Cable and X-Force, Thanos Rising and Superior Spider-Man. (Phew.) But more importantly than all of this, we finally find out what “Mapone” means today!! The final issue of Daredevil: End of Days hits shelves, and as an added bonus, the end of one DD miniseries brings the beginning of another with Daredevil: Dark Nights. Finally, on a sadder note, the final issue of the under-appreciated Winter Soldier hits this week, bringing the end of what I thought was a really excellent espionage comic featuring one of the cooler characters in the Marvel U.

GL-Cv21-ds-56a47DC Releases

Action Comics #21
Astro City #1
Batwing #21
Detective Comics #21
Dial H #13
Earth 2 #13
Fairest #16
Green Arrow #21
Green Lantern #21
Legends Of The Dark Knight #9
Movement #2
Stormwatch #21
Swamp Thing #21
Trinity Of Sin The Phantom Stranger #9

Perfect Pulls: Weren’t expecting the new Venditti and Tan era of Green Lantern to start so soon, were you? Yeah, neither was I, but here it is! Right on the heels of the end of Wrath of the First Lantern comes this new era for the Corps, with Hal Jordon at the helm and a brave new no-Guardians world to contend with. Also, despite constant word from DC that she’s not being groomed to be the next Robin, Harper Row returns again to help Batman in Detective Comics #21. I hear what you’re saying, DC, but no one is buying it. Whether it’s Harper or Carrie, can you just pick your lady Robin already? Finally, fresh off of revealing the new Batman in Earth 2 Annual #1, this week’s Earth 2 #13 premiers Captain Steel and shows us the horror hidden in the still-burning firepits from the war with Darkseid.

East Of West #3
Invincible Universe #3
Mice Templar IV Legend #3
Perhapanauts Danger Down Under #5 (Of 5)
Savage Dragon #188
Son Of Merlin #5
Spawn #232
Ten Grand #2

Perfect Pulls: Don’t let the number fool you, this is indeed another week without a new title from Image. Sure, All-New Secret Skullkickers #1 may appear to be new, but it’s just another issue that’s continuing a joke that stopped being funny a couple months ago. The comic is good, though! Otherwise, phenomenal new series Ten Grand and East of West have new issues that will certainly sell out instantly, and the classic side of Image is well represented as well, with Darkness, Savage Dragon and Spawn all seeing new issues today.

Perfect Pulls: Only one new title from the indie scene this week, but it’s pretty awesome. BOOM’s Herobear and the Kid Special #1 brings back Mike Kunkel’s Eisner Award-winning all-ages title, and all comic fans should check it out. On the other end of the spectrum, BOOM also has another issue of Suicide Risk out today, and if it’s as interesting as the first issue you should definitely check it out. Dynamite has a bunch of it’s pulp offerings on shelves this week, with Spider, Miss Fury and Black Bat all represented, and after two weeks off Valiant returns with a new Archer and Armstrong and Shadowman. Finally, a new issue of Polarity is out this week, a comic that’s been discussed heavily on the Geek Legacy Comic Corner Podcast with myself and The Mighty Jerd… Jerd loved the first issue and hated the second, so we’ll all have to tune in this week to see how this one made him feel!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, June 5th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
