Tyler’s Comic Corner – 6/3/15 Edition

Posted on June 3, 2015 at 6:30 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

sw3covMarvel Releases

All-New X-Men #41
Amazing Spider-Man #18.1
Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows #1
Armor Wars #1
Darth Vader #6
Future Imperfect #1
Giant-Size Little Marvel AvX #1
Groot #1
Guardians Team-Up #6
Master Of Kung Fu #2 (Of 4)
Princess Leia #4 (Of 5)
Secret Wars #3 (Of 8)
Secret Wars Battleworld #2 (Of 4)
Spider-Woman #8
Star Wars #6
Superior Iron Man #9
Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #6
Wolverines #20
X-Tinction Agenda #1
Years Of Future Past #1

Perfect Pulls: After two weeks of back-to-back issues of the main Secret Wars title, having to go two weeks without one was hard. Fortunately, that burden has been lifted this week, as Secret Wars #3 hits shelves today! Along with the main book, there are a veritable ton of Secret Wars-related tie-ins as well, ranging from the cute and funny Giant-Size Little Marvel AvX #1 to one based in one of my all-time favorite X-stories, X-Tinction Agenda #1. The Star Wars side of Marvel is also well represented today, with Star Wars, Princess Leia, and the damn-near-perfect Darth Vader all getting new issues as well.

gl41covDC Releases

Action Comics #41
Batman Arkham Knight #5
Batman Beyond #1
Bat-Mite #1 (Of 6)
Bizarro #1 (Of 6)
Flash Season Zero #9
Green Arrow #41
Green Lantern #41
Justice League #41
Lobo #7
Midnighter #1
Mortal Kombat X #7
Omega Men #1
Wonder Woman Annual #1

Perfect Pulls: You know how they say you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone? Nobody knows that better than fans of DC comics. For the past two months we’ve endured Convergence, and by endured, I mean avoided entirely. While the financial savings of dropping a major publisher for two months was nice, it wasn’t worth having to miss my favorite characters… and now I no longer have to! DC’s back on track, with new titles rolling out as the core titles pick back up, and I can’t wait to dive back in. I’m particularly excited for Green Lantern #41, as this “Hal Jordan renegade” story has me all kinds of hooked. I’m also particularly excited for Action Comics #41, as this upcoming Truth storyline is probably the most interest Superman story I’ve heard of in nearly a decade. DC is back, and I couldn’t be happier about it!

ab1covImage Releases

Airboy #1 (Of 4)
Autumnlands Tooth And Claw #6
Big Man Plans #3 (Of 4)
Covenant #1
Death Vigil #7 (Of 8)
Empty #4
Humans #5
Jupiter’s Circle #3
Mice Templar V Night’s End #3 (Of 5)
Minimum Wage So Many Bad Decisions #2 (Of 6)
Morning Glories #46
Nailbiter #13
No Mercy #3
Nonplayer #2 (Of 6)
Wicked + The Divine #11
Zero #17

Perfect Pulls: The two newest Image books are both unique this week, even by Image standards. Airboy is a semi-biographical book by James Robinson and Greg Hinkle where a night of drinking finds them both suddenly under the wing of their own comic character, but in real life. Meanwhile, Covenant brings together the Bible, the Ark of the Covenant, and Rob Liefeld, and all that that implies! Both of these are definitely not your normal comics. Also this week, I’m already seeing the “beware of spoilers” warnings for WicDiv #11, so make sure you read that one right away.

Sixth Gun Valley Of Death #1 (Of 3)

Valiant Entertainment:
Dead Drop #2 (Of 4)
Imperium #5

Perfect Pulls: Before I talk about the indie highlights this week, I have to ask: am I the only one who thinks it’s weird that what appears to be the final issue of Archie before it reboots is Archie #666? I just can’t help but feel like that should have been wrapped up either one issue faster or spread out over one more book. Odd numbering aside, there’s lots more to catch your attention this week. Dynamite helps Mark Waid bring back The Avenger, Oni kicks off an new Sixth Gun mini (just in time for their RPG Kickstarter), Valiant has new issues of Imperium and Dead Drop, and IDW has the final issue of it’s criminally underappreciated Samurai Jack series… and those are just a few of the highlights on a loaded week for the indies.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, June 3rd. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
