Posted on June 26, 2013 at 12:01 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Young Avengers #6

Perfect Pulls: I’ll be reading 17 of the 23 books coming from Marvel this week; clearly, it’s a really good week for the House that Stan Built. I could give you all sorts of reason plot-wise why Avengers A.I. #1 is a book you should read, especially coming out of the wake of Age of Ultron, but I’m not even going to. It has a Doombot. As an Avenger. A Doombot is an Avenger. Try not to read that, I dare you! Also, as soon as I make a comment regarding the slow publication of Guardians of the Galaxy, here’s a new issue just two weeks apart from the last. You sure showed me Marvel, though I’m pretty sure I technically win here. Finally, we’re gonna be busy this week X-fans, with a release from all four of the major X-books in one week. It’s like Christmas in June, so unload your wallet and clear your schedule!

BMSM5DC Releases

Adventures Of Superman #2
All-Star Western #21
Aquaman #21
Arrow #8
Batman Superman #1
Batman The Dark Knight #21
Catwoman #21
Flash #21
Green Team Teen Trillionaires #2
He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe #3
Injustice Gods Among Us #6
Justice League #21
Justice League Of America #5
Larfleeze #1
Red Lanterns #21
Superman #21
Talon #9
Teen Titans #21
Unwritten #50
Wake #2 (Of 10)

Perfect Pulls: Lots of great books out this week from DC, but none have the anticipation felt towards Batman/Superman #1. Gregg Pak and Jae Lee bring back the team-up book that DC should be required to publish by law, pairing together the two most unlikely best friends in comics in a format that always sees them shine. If you’re new to DC, perhaps won over by the New 52, don’t sleep on this book; even if you’re only a fan of one half of this title, believe me when I tell you you will love every page. Also, the enigmatic Larfleeze finally gets some exposure, as his new self-titled book begins this week with promises to reveal Agent Orange’s past. Finally, if you missed out on the first issue a few weeks back, be sure to check out Snyder and Murphy’s The Wake, unless you’re afraid of the ocean, in which case you should probably skip this book altogether.

bounce2Image Releases

Bounce #2
Clone #8
Elephantmen #49
Fatale #15
Five Ghosts The Haunting Of Fabian Gray #4 (Of 5)
Hoax Hunters Case Files #1
Jupiter’s Legacy #2
Morning Glories #28
Prophet #36
Sex #4
Think Tank #8

Perfect Pulls: He’s not the hero stoners’ need, but he is the hero stoners’ deserve. The Bounce #2 follows the downright excellent first issue, following a hero who doesn’t take life very seriously, but takes saving the lives of others as seriously as possible. The Bounce isn’t the only “realistic superhero” book from Image this week either, as the tale of famous superheroes more-famous kids continues in Jupiter’s Legacy. The first issue was good but predictable, so I’m hoping this issue helps break this story from the mold. Finally, fans of supernatural books, if you aren’t reading Fabian Gray it’s time to correct that. The tale of Gray and his ability to tap into the abilities of five literary archetypes is fresh and a blast to read, and will be a must-buy trade for sure.

Vitriol The Hunter #5 (Of 6)

Valiant Entertainment:
X-O Manowar #14

Perfect Pulls: Dynamite’s pulp-crossover epic Masks reaches it’s conclusion this week, and the expansive tale of vigilante heroes against all the forces at the disposal of a completely corrupt city promises to be just as explosive and painful as the rest of the series. Nobody does pulp as well as Dynamite, and Masks has been the irrefutable proof of that. If you’ve been reading this crossover and wondering if the books that inspired it (like The Shadow and The Spider) are worth picking up, let me assure you they are. Speaking of events that are concluding, don’t miss the end of Planet Death over in X-O Manowar #14. Aric’s war against the Vine has been bloody, and if this the end, I suspect we haven’t seen anything yet.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, June 26th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
