Posted on June 19, 2013 at 7:35 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

X-Men Legacy #12

Perfect Pulls: Today sees the end of Age of Ultron, the time-traveliest saga this side of Doctor Who. Big changes come from this issue, particularly in the last few pages, so if you want a good idea of some of the big upcoming problems facing the Marvel Universe you won’t want to miss out on this issue. Avengers #14 and New Avengers #7 both bring us closer to the cusp of Infinity; the epic space event is so close you can almost taste the Thanos! (Gross.) Also, as I mentioned in the last issue of the Geek Legacy Comic Corner Podcast, Superior Spider-Man has really been coming into its own as of late, growing more and more compelling now that the “spirit Peter” is gone, and today we get another issue to see if that trend continues. Finally, Daredevil fans will want to make sure they grab Indestructible Hulk #9,

prv_batmanandbatgirl21DC Releases

100 Bullets Brother Lono #1 (Of 8)
Animal Man #21
Batman And Batgirl #21
Batman Beyond Unlimited #17
Batwoman #21
Birds Of Prey #21
Fables #130
Green Lantern New Guardians #21
Justice League Of America’s Vibe #5
Legion Of Super-Heroes #21
Red Hood And The Outlaws #21
Supergirl #21
Wonder Woman #21

Perfect Pulls: An extremely light week this week from DC, but not without some must-read books. The now-rotating title that used to be Batman and Robin shifts its focus to Batgirl this week, finally showing us how Barbara is involved in Bruce’s grieving process over the death of his son. (And if it’s anything like the others, chances are she doesn’t help much.) Green Lantern New Guardians #21 is the next installment of the post-First Lantern GL universe, and it appears the title of the comic finally makes sense, as it seems this book really will now be focusing on the new Guardians along with Kyle. It also looks as if this issue will have long-term ramifications for the GL side of the DCU, with Kyle seeking out an anomaly in space that even has the new Guardians worried, and will clearly be the source of several problems for the Corps. Lastly, it looks like the slow burn is about to heat up over in Wonder Woman #21. This book has been moving forward at a snail’s pace, but business is about to pick up as Diana finally meets the First Born in battle.

Invincible #103
It Girl And The Atomics #11,
Mara #5 (Of 6)
Mind The Gap #11
Miniature Jesus #3 (Of 5)
Revival #11
Witchblade #167

Perfect Pulls: Another week without a big new premier from Image, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t still putting out quality titles this week. Invincible #103 continues to put back the pieces after the destruction caused during The Death of Everyone, while critical darlings Mara, It Girl and the Atomics, Revival and Miniature Jesus all have new issues as well. Finally, Witchblade fans will want to check out Witchblade #167, which starts an all new story arc pairing the current Witchblade with a bitter and angry former Witchblade, which I’m sure goes perfectly fine without any conflict whatsoever.

Valiant Entertainment:
Bloodshot #12
Harbinger #13

Perfect Pulls:  The epic Harbinger War crossover event has hit it’s full stride across the Valiant universe, leaving massive destruction and a large number of dead bodies in its wake, and this week it only gets worse. Bloodshot #12 sees Bloodshot finally get his vengeance on Dr. Kuretich for tricking him into being the focal point of the Harbinger War. Harbinger #13 is the issue we’ve all been waiting for, featuring the epic battle between Bloodshot and the Renegades we’ve all been dying to see! In other words, it’s a good day for Valiant fans. Horror fans also have reason to celebrate this week, as all of you should be grabbing Extinction Parade #1. It tells the story of a zombie outbreak decimating the human population, but with a cool twist; this isn’t a story about the zombies, this is a story about the vampires who need humans to live and who now need to deal with the outbreak that’s wiping out their food supply. Better yet, it’s written by Max Brooks, the horror author extraordinaire behind The Zombie Survival Guide and a little book you may have heard of called World War Z. If you like zombies, vampires,  or both, you need to check out this book!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, June 19th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
