Tyler’s Comic Corner – 6/17/15 Edition

Posted on June 17, 2015 at 4:10 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

ss1covMarvel Releases

Armor Wars #2
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad #4 (Of 5)
Bucky Barnes The Winter Soldier #9
Darth Vader #1 (Director’s Cut)
Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars #2 (Of 4)
Deathlok #9
George Romero’s Empire Of The Dead Act Three #3 (Of 5)
Magneto #19
Moon Knight #16
Ms Marvel #16
Old Man Logan #2
Runaways #1
Squadron Sinister #1
Star Wars #1 (Director’s Cut)
Thors #1

Perfect Pulls: It’s easy to be excited for a book that combines dozens and dozens of Thors together into one comic, but Thors #1 isn’t the Secret Wars tie-in that I’m most excited about today. In fact, it isn’t even the second issue of the outstanding Old Man Logan, either. Nope, this week I am all about Squadron Sinister #1. The Squadron-side of Marvel is one of their best kept little secrets, a cool semi-Justice League homage from the old days that saw a number of iterations, almost all of them cool. To those of you who weren’t scratching your heads when you met Hyperion in Avengers a few years back, you know what I’m talking about, and I bet you’re just as pumped as I am!

rsob1covDC Releases

Astro City #24
Black Canary #1
Doomed #1
Dr Fate #1
Harley Quinn And Power Girl #1 (Of 6)
Infinite Crisis The Fight For The Multiverse #12
Justice League Of America #1
Kitchen #8 (Of 8)
Mad Max Fury Road Furiosa #1
Martian Manhunter #1
Prez #1 (Of 12)
Robin Son Of Batman #1
Secret Six #3
Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman #11
Sinestro #12
Superman Wonder Woman #18
Teen Titans Go #10
Wonder Woman #41

Perfect Pulls: There’s nothing like the heartwarming tale of a boy and his… giant bat monster? Look, I’ll be the first to admit I have no idea how Robin Son of Batman is a book about Damian and his monster buddy, but I’ll also be the first to admit I don’t really care… I’m already sold! All in all, this looks to be a day where the internet should love DC, with new books focusing on neglected fan favorites like Black Canary and Dr. Fate. And if those don’t do it, an entire comic based on Furiosa from the new Mad Max ought to make them internet darlings for at least a day!

toh1covImage Releases

Alex + Ada #15
Astronauts In Trouble #1
Empty Zone #1
God Hates Astronauts #9
Lazarus #17
Low #7
Manifest Destiny #15
Revival #30
RunLoveKill #3
Secret Identities #5
Southern Bastards #9
Stray Bullets Sunshine And Roses #5
Surface #3
Tales Of Honor Bred To Kill #1
Tech Jacket #10
Trees #10
Valhalla Mad #2

Perfect Pulls: The Honorverse series of sci-fi books from David Weber is a huge hit, and today Image premiers the first-ever comic series based in that universe. If you’re a fan of the novels, early reviews seem to promise that this comic (despite not being written by Weber) will leave you just as happy. Also this week, don’t miss out on new issues of hits like Southern Bastards, Secret Identities, Trees, Low, and my personal favorite Manifest Destiny!
