Tyler’s Comic Corner – 6/1/16 Edition

Posted on June 1, 2016 at 5:18 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

CWII1covMarvel Releases

A-Force #6
All-New All-Different Avengers #10
All-New Wolverine #9
Civil War II #1 (Of 7)
Contest Of Champions #9
Deadpool #13
Invincible Iron Man #10
Marvel Universe Avengers Assemble Civil War #4
Moon Knight #3
Old Man Logan #7
Punisher #2
Spider-Man 2099 #11
Spider-Woman #8
Spider-Women Omega #1
X-Men ’92 #4

Perfect Pulls: The war REALLY begins today, as Civil War II #1 makes it’s debut! After a #0 issue that kind of felt like filler, I’m really looking forward into diving in the real meat of this event. I have my reservations about this one, but I also have no doubt that this event will leave an impact, and those are always the best kind. I’m also looking forward to diving into Punisher #2 for nearly the same reasons. The first issue was solid, but I didn’t love it as much as I wanted to. I’m hoping this issue hooks me the way Becky Cloonan typically does!

BMR1covDC Releases

Batman Beyond #13
Batman Rebirth #1
Bloodlines #3 (Of 6)
DC Comics Bombshells #14
Doctor Fate #13
Green Arrow Rebirth #1
Green Lanterns Rebirth #1
Superman Rebirth #1
Superman The Coming Of The Supermen #5 (Of 6)
Survivors’ Club #9
Teen Titans Go #16
Unfollow #8

Perfect Pulls: Oh man, it’s the first week in ages with multiple DC books that I’m really excited to read! After last week’s impressively intriguing (and well-received) Rebirth #1, we get our first wave of the solo titles that also serve to kick off the event. DC’s coming out swinging, too, dropping four of the most anticipated books in the first week. It’s still too early to tell, but after the premier I’m very optimistic for this reboot-that-isn’t. Here’s hoping today’s lineup kicks my optimism into high gear!

Casanova Acedia #5
Deadly Class #21
Discipline #4
Elephantmen #71
Goddamned #4
Nailbiter #22
Nowhere Men #10
Paper Girls #6
Power Lines #3 (Of 6)
Saints #9 (Of 9)
Savage Dragon #214
Stray Bullets Sunshine And Roses #15
Walking Dead #155

Perfect Pulls: Do you suffer from Walking Dead fatigue? Are you tired of all the live-tweeting and complaining and/or fanboying out about the two TV shows? You used to read the comic, but even that started to drag? You’re perfectly describing me about six months ago, and that’s why I’m taking this space to tell lapsed Walking Dead comic fans that you may want to return! I kept reading Walking Dead as what I call an “obligation book,” one of those titles you keep reading simply because you’ve read so many previous issues. However, over the last few months, I’ve really found myself genuinely looking forward to each issue, and I think many folks would agree with me. The story is really picking up again, so if you’ve got room in your budget or heart for this book again, you may want to reintroduce it into your life!

Perfect Pulls: There are few things that go together better than Matt Wagner and The Shadow… and if you agree with that, you’ll be just as stoked about Dynamite’s latest as I am! The Shadow: Death of Margo Lane doesn’t just have a title guaranteed to make any Shadow fan take note, it’s also both written and drawn by Wagner!  I can’t wait to grab this one today. BOOM! also debuts the latest in their how-is-this-so-dang-good Power Rangers lineup with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Pink #1, the first of several solo Ranger books they have planned. Again, folks: if you’ve ever thought the Power Rangers were even remotely cool, you need to read these books!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, June 1st. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
