Posted on May 18, 2016 at 11:48 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Scarlet #9

Spidey #6
Squadron Supreme #7
Star-Lord #7
Uncanny Avengers #9

Perfect Pulls: Here we go again! Today is the official kickoff of Civil War II, the first mega-event in a post Secret Wars Marvel Universe. With a premise that sounds a lot like Minority Report, but also with empassioned pleas from Bendis to trust him that it wasn’t, I’m really excited to see which side wins out. The original Civil War (no, not the movie!) is very near and dear to my heart, so I’m hoping I love this event just as much. This week also has new issues of the stellar All-New Wolverine, Spidey, Spider-Man, Old Man Logan and Karnak to help keep you entertained.

Superman Wonder Woman #29
Titans Hunt #8 (Of 8)
Wonder Woman #52

Perfect Pulls: It’s the start of a brand new world at DC… and I’m not talking about RebirthFuture Quest is the beginning of a whole line of Hanna-Barbera inspired comics coming from DC, and I’ll admit I’m pretty excited for this one. Some of these look awful (check out the Scooby Doo reboot), but this one seems focused on telling new stories with classic characters, as opposed to reinventing them in ways no one wants. That’s what I’d hope for in a project like this, so Future Quest #1 can count on my money!

md19covImage Releases

Beauty #7
Black Road #2
Citizen Jack #6
Drifter #11
Invincible #128
Manifest Destiny #19
Mirror #4
Snowfall #4
Spawn #263

Perfect Pulls: It’s a light week from Image, which presents me with a great opportunity to do something I haven’t done in a while: remind you that Manifest Destiny is a killer comic. It’s still just as charming and terrifying as it’s always been, and a new arc is kicking off this week. Jump in now, or grab the trades, either way you should be reading this book!

Perfect Pulls: Annuals are a classic institution at many comic publishers, but some never use the tried-and-true method of delivering an extra dose of a popular character. Today, Valiant finally breaks the seal and unleashes their first-ever annual, and appropriately it goes to arguably their biggest flagship. X-O Manowar Annual #1 promises to be loaded with extra content, worthy of the title of Annual! Also, IDW has a new series set in an uncommon era; Columbia during the Spanish Inquisition. Featuring a man who can transform into different animals, it sounds unique enough to check out for sure.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, May 18th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
