Tyler’s Comic Corner – 4/8/15 Edition

Posted on April 8, 2015 at 6:00 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

vader4covMarvel Releases

Bucky Barnes The Winter Soldier #7
Captain Marvel #14
Darth Vader #4

Miles Morales Ultimate Spider-Man #12
S.H.I.E.L.D. #4
Spider-Man 2099 #11
Spider-Woman #6
Storm #10

Perfect Pulls: While there are still many who still feel burned by the elimination of the extended Star Wars universe following Disney’s acquisition, even the harshest critic has to admit that some greatness has come from it… and that greatness is Marvel’s Darth Vader. This series has been solid gold since the very first issue, exceeding my already lofty expectations, and is always the book I’m most excited for each week it drops… and this week is one of those! For those who don’t love Star Wars (what?!), this week also sees the death of Deadpool in Deadpool #250 (which I’m sure will stick), the latest issue of the impressive All-New Hawkeye, and a triple dose of Spider-goodness with new issues of Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Woman and Spider-Man 2099.

converg1covDC Releases

Arrow Season 2.5 #7
Astro City #22
Batman Arkham Knight #2
Coffin Hill #17
Convergence #1 (Of 8)
Convergence Batgirl #1 (Of 2)
Convergence Batman And Robin #1 (Of 2)

Convergence Nightwing Oracle #1 (Of 2)

Convergence The Atom #1 (Of 2)
Convergence The Question #1 (Of 2)
Convergence Titans #1 (Of 2)
Fables The Wolf Among Us #4
Mortal Kombat X #5
Scooby-Doo Where Are You #56

Perfect Pulls: The DC list sure looks different! After years of the same rotation, it’s out with the old, in with the… even older? Convergence, the event that promises to pit every era of the DC universe against each other, kicks off in high gear today with the first round of miniseries (which will replace the normal lineup this month and next) as well as the next installment of the main book. It’s difficult to make a recommendation since we’re all in the dark as to how these books will work, so I recommend my approach: if the cover looks badass, you should probably buy it!

Perfect Pulls: The final chapter of the Strode saga begins today with The Legacy of Luther Strode #1, the latest from the killer team-up of Justin Jordan and Tradd Moore. I’ve had the series recommended to me several times and kept putting it off, but look at that cover… I think it’s time I get on this! Also this week, don’t miss a killer lineup of Image’s best, including Birthright, Copperhead, Descender, Jupiter’s Circle, Nameless, and Saga to name a few!

Perfect Pulls: Dynamite’s pulp noir line is just awesome. While some series are stronger than others, characters like Green Hornet and The Shadow are just awesome. But you know what’s even better than their pulp noir solo books? Their pulp noir crossovers! Masks was an awesome ride that felt almost like fan fiction (in a good way), and fortunately Dynamite decided it was so nice they’d do it twice… so don’t miss Masks 2 starting today! This week also sees a rare sight, with Dark Horse’s Rebels telling a tale spun during the Revolutionary War, not an era you often see in comics. Finally, fans of big monsters might want to check out Oni’s Kaijumax, which brings you to the world of big monsters and promises not to be anything close to what you were expecting!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, April 8th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
