Tyler’s Comic Corner – 4/5/16 Edition

Posted on April 6, 2016 at 11:22 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Perfect Pulls: Look, I get it. Everyone and their mom wants you to to believe they’ve always been the World’s Biggest Black Panther Fan, and for the past week have been falling all over themselves to get any opportunity possible to tell you how excited they are about it. So, let me keep it real for a second. Yes, those people are annoying, and transparent as hell. But, that doesn’t mean Black Panther isn’t kick ass, and it definitely doesn’t mean that you should avoid this book. All hype aside, this looks like a killer new title for one of Marvel’s coolest classic characters, so don’t let the internet deter you! Oh, and did I mention that there’s a Poe Dameron solo book drawn by Phil Noto today? Yes, I too jumped for joy!

Swamp Thing #4 (Of 6)
Unfollow #6

Perfect Pulls: I want to be so excited for Darkseid War Special #1. I’ve been madly in love with this event, so more of it is always a good thing, right? However, the only part of this event I haven’t really liked is the introduction of Grail… and this whole special is about her. So, my excitement is a bit dampened, but I’m still totally grabbing it. We’ve also got a whole lot of new stuff that I’m loving right now, like Detective Comics and Green Lantern. Sure, I’m about to say goodbye to Renegade Hal and Bat-Gordon thanks to Rebirth, but it doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy the time we have left together!

Fix #1
Grizzly Shark #1
Prophet Earth War #3 (Of 6)

Perfect Pulls: Lots and lots of new books in the Image lineup today! Fans of all things Darkness will want to check out the Darkness Hope one-shot, with a glimpse into the future of the Estacado line. If you’re a fan of the cult hit Grizzly Shark, Image has it for you, and in full color! Think Tank Creative Destruction brings real-life Iron Man-style armor to our world, which I’m sure will go great. But most of all, be sure to check out The Fix. A wacky crime series from Nick Spencer? What more do you need?!

Perfect Pulls: Remember when Dynamite was publishing all those rebooted Gold Key comics, and they were out-f’ing-standing? Well, like chocolate and peanut butter, great things are even better when together, which is why I’m so stoked for Gold Key Alliance #1. All of those characters, together in one book? Amazing. Also, Oni has a new book out today called Mighty Zodiac, which breaks down in detail all the proof that Ted Cruz is the Zodiac Killer. Wait, it turns out it has absolutely nothing to do with that… but it still looks pretty cool! Also, he’s totally the Zodiac Killer.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, April 5th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
