Posted on April 27, 2016 at 1:25 pm by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Perfect Pulls: There’s what looks to be a pretty cool book out today from Marvel, and while you may be saying “no way” to adding another book to your pull list, Year of Marvels: The Amazing #1 will be worth the cover price! I love books that bring together talented creators who may not have worked together before, and puts them on characters they aren’t known for handling. These type of books always seem to bring out the best in both the fictional characters depicted, and the real people behind them, so I’m excited to check out the latest version. Plus, it’s the first book where Geek Legacy alumni Heather Antos is the sole editior, so you know you can bank on quality! Definitely don’t miss this one, I suspect you’ll regret it!

We Are Robin #11

Perfect Pulls: Well, this is it! It’s been a hell of a run, but today’s Batman #51 marks the end of the Snyder/Capullo era in the pages of Batman. While I’ll be the first to admit this run definitely left me feeling some serious Joker fatigue, I adored the vast majority of it, and still consider the Court of Owls and Thomas Wayne Jr. to be some of the coolest and most unique additions to the Batman mythos in the last decade or more. However, what truly made this run special was the love and care that Snyder and Capullo both put into it. There are a lot of creators who talk about writing or drawing legendary characters as if it was something they could barely muster the excitement for, but both of these gentlemen treated being in Gotham like the glorious honor we as fans consider it to be. It’s been a long time since there was a creator-duo this easy to love and respect, and they will be missed!

Image+1covImage Releases

Astronauts In Trouble #11 (Of 11)
Circuit-Breaker #2 (Of 5)
Dream Police #9
Four Eyes Hearts Of Fire #4 (Of 4)
Image+ #1
Injection #9
Low #13
Mythic #8
Outcast By Kirkman And Azaceta #18
Postal #12
Power Lines #2 (Of 6)
Roche Limit Monadic #2 (Of 4)
Saga #36
Sex #27
Sex Criminals #15
Velvet #14

Perfect Pulls: Image has an interesting new addition to its catalog today. Image+ isn’t their latest comic. It’s a magazine, partnering Image with Previews, and serves both to highlight their upcoming new releases, as well as offering exclusive comic content in itself. This content is highlighted by an ongoing look at The Walking Dead’s Negan, with four pages in each issue that will comprise a full 48 pages once it’s done. This could be cool, but could also be annoying for people who don’t care about the magazine but want to see the content they can’t see anywhere else. Time will tell if what shows up here gets printed in trades, etc, but hopefully this turns out to be a worthwhile endeavor, and not what admittedly kind of sounds like something of a cash-grab.
