Tyler’s Comic Corner – 4/16/14 Edition

Posted on April 16, 2014 at 12:01 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

ssm31covMarvel Releases

Amazing X-Men #6
Deadpool Vs Carnage #2 (Of 4)
Hulk #1
Ms. Marvel #3
Nova #16
Superior Spider-Man #31
Thor God Of Thunder #21
Ultimate FF #1
Uncanny X-Men #20
What If Age Of Ultron #3 (Of 5)
Winter Soldier The Bitter March #3 (Of 5)
Wolverine #4
Wolverine And The X-Men #3
X-Force #3
X-Men #13

Perfect Pulls: Marvel has been all about new books lately, but for me today is all about the end of an era. In Superior Spider-Man #31 we get the final book in the series, and the return of Peter to the webs again. It’s been an outstanding ride, and I can’t wait to see how it ends. Those new books are indeed here as well, with Hulk #1 giving Big Green another solo run, and Ultimate FF #1 joining last week’s All-New Ultimates. And for X-fans, Uncanny X-Men #20 is a must read, as Cyclops’ war on SHIELD gets underway.

bm30covDC Releases

American Vampire Second Cycle #2
Batman #30
Batman And Wonder Woman #30
Batman Eternal #2
Batwoman #30
Birds Of Prey #30
Green Lantern New Guardians #30
Harley Quinn #5
Justice League #29
Red Hood And The Outlaws #30
Sinestro #1
Smallville Season 11 Lantern #1 (Of 4)
Supergirl #30
Trinity Of Sin Pandora #10
Unwritten Volume 2 Apocalypse #4
Wonder Woman #30

Perfect Pulls: Batman fans, we are getting a comic buffet this week that’s fit for a king. Batman Eternal reminds us that every week is a Bat week, Batman and Wonder Woman #30 continues the Hunt for Robin, and Batwoman continues to square off with the Wolf Spider. But as great as all that is, it pales in comparison to Batman #30, part one of the third and final chapter of Zero Year. This book promises to dive into the post-apocalyptic Gotham we saw way back in the beginning. I know I can’t wait! Along with Batmania comes the all-out war of Wonder Woman #30, Forever Evil tie-in Justice League #30, and the Durlan problem continuing in Green Lantern New Guardians #30. Oh, and don’t forget Cullen Bunn’s Sinestro starts today… as if anyone could forget that.

sw3covImage Releases

Five Weapons #8
Mercenary Sea #3
Minimum Wage #4
Morning Glories #38
Shotgun Wedding #3 (Of 4)
Stray Bullets Killers #2
Voice In The Dark #6
Witchblade #174

Perfect Pulls: This week marks the first week in ages that Image won’t be hitting my wallet in the double digits for the week. The only book I’m getting is Shotgun Wedding, which I gushed about last week. That isn’t to say this week doesn’t have other great releases, but since I don’t read these titles I’m just going to enjoy the savings this week!

Perfect Pulls: Remember a few issues back when I raved on the Comic Corner Podcast about the rebooted Gold Key Universe? Another of these awesome titles hits shelves today with Solar Man of the Atom #1. I’m not as familiar with this character as Turok or Magnus, but the quality of this reboot has been so consistent that I’m already on board. BOOM! has a new scifi superhero title in Translucid #1, where a supervillain dives into the psyche of his archnemesis. And Transformer fans still reeling from the end of Dark Cybertron will want to grab Transformers Windblade #1 to find out more about the newest robot in disguise.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, April 16th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
