Tyler’s Comic Corner – 4/13/16 Edition

Posted on April 13, 2016 at 8:00 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

X-Men ’92 #2

Perfect Pulls: What’s new is newer again! (Just go with it.) Today marks the latest version of Moon Knight, a book that was near and dear to all of our hearts during the last Marvel “reboot.” Or, at least, for as long as Ellis and Shalvey were on it… which wasn’t very long. However, with Jeff Lemire as scribe and Greg Smallwood on art, I’m willing to let this book back in my heart. I’m also excited to see Spidey on this list, a book that I feel is woefully slow to hit shelves. Then again, I’m probably just used to getting 1-5 new Spider-Man titles a week, so this one being published like a normal comic just seems strange to me. Oh, and Gwenpool’s book is out today, if you’re into that sort of thing. (I am not.)

BMTMNT5covDC Releases

Batman Superman #31
Batman Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #5 (Of 6)
Black Canary #10
Catwoman #51
Constantine The Hellblazer #11
Dark And Bloody #3 (Of 6)
DC Comics Bombshells #11
Earth 2 Society #11
Fables The Wolf Among Us #16
Gotham Academy #17
Green Lantern Corps Edge Of Oblivion #4 (Of 6)
Harley Quinn And Her Gang Of Harleys #1 (Of 6)

New Romancer #5 (Of 6)
Red Hood Arsenal #11
Scooby-Doo Where Are You #68
Slash And Burn #6
Starfire #11
Wonder Woman ’77 Special #3

Perfect Pulls: I can’t believe how much I’m enjoying Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I mean, I can believe it from the perspective of these being two things I adore, so naturally I’ll enjoy seeing them together. But what makes this book such a pleasant surprise is how legitimately good it is. The story is fun, and the over-the-top art is perfect for such an over-the-top crossover. You can probably trade-wait on this, but definitely don’t miss it! Also, Harley Quinn and Her Gang of Harleys is out today, if you’re into that sort of thing. (I am not. Noticing a trend here? My apologies to Hot Topic and all who love them.)

br1covImage Releases

Autumnlands #10
Black Road #1
Citizen Jack #5
Deadly Class #20
Drifter #10
Empty Zone #7
Jupiter’s Circle Volume 2 #5 (Of 6)
Limbo #6 (Of 6)
Monstress #5
No Mercy #9
Pretty Deadly #9
Shutter #20
Spawn #262
Starve #8

Perfect Pulls: Do you find yourself saying “there aren’t enough Viking-related comics” often? If so, I feel your feels, but Image has your back! Their newest title Black Road features Brian Wood’s new Viking-related tale. Wood’s writing style just seems perfectly geared for a dark Viking title from Image, so I’m definitely checking this out. And, as always, I can’t wait for another issue of Jupiter’s Circle Volume 2, a franchise that continues to blow me away with every issue.

Perfect Pulls: Is that seriously a Xena: Warrior Princess comic on your list, Dynamite? I didn’t even know I wanted that until I was writing this article, but I am absolutely in. However, be warned Dynamite: if you don’t also make a Hercules: The Legendary Journeys comic to go with it, we’re officially fighting. Also, horror fans will want to set their sights on House of Penance, out today from Dark Horse. Promising a creepy tale of demons and Winchesters, and written by the incomparable Peter J. Tomasi, this one is sure to be brutal. (I mean that in a good way.)

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, April 13th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
