Tyler’s Comic Corner – 4/1/15 Edition

Posted on April 1, 2015 at 4:37 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Perfect Pulls: Remember those halcyon days where several X-books would drop in a day and this paragraph would be all about how great it is to be an X-fan? Well, those days seem like a distant memory now, but there is something that feels the same today, and I still can’t believe that’s true. This week, that feeling is brought to you by the my excitement for Uncanny Inhumans and the chance to have two Inhuman-related books a month! That’s right, what used to be the thing I ignored the most about the Marvel U has become one of its most interesting parts, thanks almost entirely to Charles Soule, who thankfully is the writer for this new title as well. Add Steve McNiven’s art and my excitement is through the roof. However, if the Inhumans still can’t catch your interest, there’s still plenty to love, with new issues of Amazing Spider-Man and Avengers, several new one-shots and minis that may be worth investing in, and another Black Vortex chapter in this week’s Cyclops.

be52covDC Releases

Arkham Manor Endgame #1 (One Shot)
Batman And Robin Annual #3
Batman Eternal #52
Batman Superman Annual #2
Batwoman Annual #2
Convergence #0 (Of 8)
Earth 2 World’s End #26
Flash Season Zero #7
Gotham Academy Endgame #1 (One Shot)
Harley Quinn #16

Looney Tunes #224
Names #8 (Of 9)
New 52 Futures End #48
Sinestro Annual #1
Superman Wonder Woman #17
Teen Titans Annual #1
Wolf Moon #5 (Of 6)
Wonder Woman #40

Perfect Pulls: This week we say goodbye to something I’ve loved, and hello to something I hope is awesome. The goodbye is for Batman Eternal, where issue #52 marks the end of the year-long weekly series. Don’t despair too much, though; main series scribe Scott Snyder has already confirmed that Batman Eternal will return in a second iteration post-Convergence. And, that hello I mentioned is for exactly that! Convergence finally kicks off today with the aptly-named Convergence #0, which means the beginning of the end (or the beginning of the next beginning?) is now officially underway. We do still have a few pre-Convergence stragglers to look forward to as well, with new issues of Superman Wonder Woman (yay!) and Harley Quinn (if you’re into that), as well as tons of annuals for some of the best pre-Convergence series DC has to offer.

nm1covImage Releases

Black Science #13
Dead@17 The Blasphemy Throne #7 (Of 7)
Dying And The Dead #2
Egos #7
God Hates Astronauts #7
Graveyard Shift #4 (Of 4)
IXth Generation #3
Li’l Depressed Boy Supposed To Be There Too #4
Nailbiter #11
No Mercy #1
Penny Dora And The Wishing Box #4 (Of 5)
Southern Bastards #8
Tales From The Con Year Two
Tech Jacket #9

Perfect Pulls: While the trend for new Image titles seems to be setting them in either fantastic fantasy worlds or the vast reaches of space, Image’s newest title looks to hit closer to home. Actually, it looks to be trying to make its way home, and it won’t be an easy trip. No Mercy tells the tale of some college freshman who take a trip to Central America as part of a home-building volunteer project. However, something goes terribly wrong, and now these kids have to make it home, in a world that actively hates them. It sounds like a story we’d all follow anxiously on the evening news, and I suspect the comic version will be just as gut-wrenching. Also this week, don’t miss out on new issues of Nailbiter, Black Science, Tech Jacket, Southern Bastards and more!

Perfect Pulls: Are you a fan of the X-Files? Well, you should be reading IDW’s X-Files Season 10 and other X-offerings, but that’s not actually why I bring it up. BOOM! premiers their latest James Tynion joint today with UFOlogy, and it’s mix of alien abductions and small-town heroics that you’ll likely want to check out. Dark Horse also kicks off their second Witcher comic series, and if you’re a fan of the games or novels and skipped the first series, you may want to rectify that. The first was outstanding, and this latest mini looks to be just as good. If you prefer your fantasy tropes to be a bit less rated-M-for-Mature, don’t miss Dynamite’s Looking for Group, which pokes fun at the fantasy tropes we all know and love. And finally, X-O Manowar fans rejoice, today’s issue brings us the latest chapter in the already-brutal Dead Hand event!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, April 1st. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
