Posted on April 10, 2013 at 12:01 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Avengers Assemble #14AU

Ultimate Comics The Ultimates #23
Ultron #1AU
Uncanny Avengers #6
Uncanny X-Men #4
Wolverine #2
X-Treme X-Men #13

Perfect Pulls: Age of Ultron rolls on this week, with the main series reaching its halfway mark. Along with that is another AoU tie-in, Ultron #1, which focuses on Victor Mancha, the member of the Runaways who’s father just happens to be Ultron himself. The AoU tie-ins have actually been some of the strongest and most interesting parts of this entire series, so this is definitely worth checking out. Over in Uncanny X-Men #4, the team heads to Hell to try and answer why Magik wasn’t affected by the Phoenix Force the way the rest of them were. Finally, the last issue of Uncanny Avengers was the first in the series that started to get me hooked on this book, and this week’s issue features Thor vs. Apocalypse, so I’m extremely optimistic that this trend will continue.

Action Comics #19
Batgirl #19
Batman #19
Batman And Red Robin #19
Batman Arkham Unhinged #13

Green Lantern Corps #19
Ravagers #11
Saucer Country #14
Suicide Squad #19
Superboy #19
Team 7 #7
Threshold #4

Perfect Pulls: DC’s “WTF Certified” month rolls on in a big way this week, particularly across the Bat-titles, with Batman #19 showing Bruce Wayne pulling a gun on James Gordon and Batman and Robin #19 featuring Carrie Kelley, the Robin from Batman: The Dark Knight. The Wrath of the First Lantern continues in Green Lantern Corps #19, and a potentially massive reveal takes place in the pages of Superboy #19 in regards to the human half of his genetic makeup. Finally, we get another issue of the new Constantine. The general consensus was mild disappointment from the first, both from new and old fans alike, so hopefully this issue makes a better impression.

iu1coverImage Releases

Invincible Universe #1
Nowhere Men #4
Saga #12
Sex #2
Walking Dead #109

Perfect Pulls: Don’t let the small number of releases this week from Image make you think this is an off week for them, as nothing could be farther from the truth. There may only be five releases, but two of those include Saga and Nowhere Men, two of their most acclaimed titles, along with a new issue of The Walking Dead that will offer a further glimpse of Ezekiel’s kingdom. Along with these also comes the second issue of Sex, the first of which offered an interesting look at what happens when a superhero retires. Finally, after the explosive events of The Death of Everyone in Invincible #100, Invincible Universe #1 begins the tale of just how everyone picks up the pieces after Dinosaurus’ impact. There may only be five books from Image this week, but all five are worth picking up!

Perfect Pulls: Lots of great indie books this week, but none that I’m looking forward to more than the return of X. X #1 marks the return of Dark Horse’s most brutal vigilante, as X hunts down the three Arcadia crimelords he’s marked for death. Fans of IDW’s G.I. Joe offerings also have a lot to be excited about, as the new beginning for the Joes continues this week. The Cobra Files focuses on ex-Cobra agent Chameleon proving she has what it takes to fight for the good guys, and is part of IDW’s program offering a new Joe title every month from three months straight. Finally, the second half of the excellent Sledgehammer 44 drops this week, and I suspect the second issue will be even more explosive than the first.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, April 10th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
