Tyler’s Comic Corner – 3/6 Edition

Posted on March 6, 2013 at 11:27 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

ageofultron1Marvel Releases

A+X #5
Age Of Apocalypse #13
Age Of Ultron #1 (Of 10)
All-New X-Men #8
Avengers #7
Cable And X-Force #5
Daredevil End Of Days #6 (Of 8)
Iron Man #7
Red She-Hulk #63
Road To Oz #6 (Of 6)
Superior Spider-Man #5
Ultimate Comics The Ultimates #22
Venom #32
Winter Soldier #16

Perfect Pulls: A light week for Marvel this week, but one that spotlights the start of the “next big thing.” Age of Ultron begins this week, Marvel’s latest crossover event featuring Hank Pym’s greatest mistake finally returning to remind us how unstoppable he really is. This event promises to be different than most in the sense that this isn’t our heroes banding together to stop an evil mastermind; in this instance, Ultron has already won, and now we find out how our heroes take back their world. Also, while it may be a light week for releases, it isn’t a light week on substance. Some of Marvel NOW’s greatest hits see new releases this week, so don’t miss a new All-New X-Men, Avengers, Iron Man or Cable and the X-Force, all titles which deserve your dollars.

Phantom Stranger #6
Stormwatch #18
Superman #17
Swamp Thing #18
Worlds’ Finest #10

Perfect Pulls: The fallout following Robin’s death begins this week with Detective Comics #18; in fact, all of the upcoming 18th issues of each Bat-title will feature a commemorative cover and story designed to pay homage to the loss of the Boy Wonder. Superman #17 features the conclusion to the H’el on Earth crossover, an event that started off pretty uninteresting but has really rallied since the start of the new year. And speaking of crossovers, Wrath of the First Lantern continues in Green Lantern #18, as we inch closer to the end of Geoff Johns’ definitive run on GL.

sex1Image Releases

Bedlam #5
Blackacre #4
Epic Kill #9
Glory #33
Great Pacific #5
I Love Trouble #4
Lost Vegas #1 (Of 4)

Repossessed #3 (Of 4)
Savage Dragon #185
Sex #1
Snapshot #2 (Of 4)
Son Of Merlin #2
Witchblade #164
Youngblood #77

Perfect Pulls: A couple new titles to go with some Image classics this week. For the classics, this week sees new releases in longtime Image staples Youngblood, Witchblade and Savage Dragon. Lost Vegas is one of the new titles, featuring an Eisner-award winning creative team introducing us to a roaming space station that is every gambler’s dream; however, if you lose it all, you become a slave to a space station you can’t possibly escape. The other new titles has the sure-to-stand-out title Sex, and tells the story of a man who’s retired from the superhero game and now is trying to live a normal life. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that will be harder than it sounds.

Shadowman #5 (Valiant)

Perfect Pulls: Rarely do I recommend something that I haven’t actually read or investigated myself, but my Geek Legacy comrade-in-arms Jerd has been raving about Fairy Quest so much I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention it here. Fairy Quest tells the story of our stories, where the characters in our favorite fairy tales are forced to relive their stories every time someone reads them, and if they resist, their minds are wiped to ensure their compliance. Nothing from the pulp noir side of Dynamite this week, but Vampirella fans get a double dose of their favorite scantly-clad vampire, and IDW gives its Transformer fans a double dose as well with a new regular issue as well as a Bumblebee one-shot.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, March 5th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
