Tyler’s Comic Corner – 3/25/15 Edition

Posted on March 25, 2015 at 6:43 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

angr12covMarvel Releases

Secret Avengers #14
Thanos Vs Hulk #4 (Of 4)
Uncanny X-Men #32
Wolverines #12

Perfect Pulls: While there’s a lot going on with Marvel today, their Black Vortex event dominates, crossing over Guardians of the Galaxy #25, Legendary Star-Lord #10, and Nova #28. While I haven’t been very invested in the event (how do I care about anything current with Secret Wars changing everything right around the corner?), it’s been getting rave reviews, and fans of both the Guardians and the All-New X-Men should at least check it out. If you’re like me and just want Secret Wars to get here now, there is a new issue of New Avengers this week to help take the edge off our cravings. And on a sad note, today is the last issue of All-New Ghost Rider, which started out fantastic, suddenly tanked, and then last issue became fantastic again… just in time to end. This could have been a huge hit, and I hope it gets another chance (with the right creative team) down the road!

Perfect PullsConvergence is nearly here, but the New 52 is going out in style! This week is loaded with must-reads, particularly for fans of all things Bat and Lantern. Batfans get a loaded stack, with new issues of Batman and Robin, Batman Eternal, Batman ’66, both Gotham titles, and even a new Catwoman. Lantern fans say goodbye to the unexpectedly great Red Lanterns, as well as a new issue of the thankfully-not-ending Sinestro. But the most exciting book on the shelves today is for those following the Multiversity storyline. Multiversity Ultra Comics #1 is the comic we’ve been seeing throughout the event… you know, the one that keeps killing the people who read it? Now, you can own your own copy! I know I’m getting mine, so it was nice knowing you all!

Perfect Pulls: Have you ever read Image’s Invincible? While Robert Kirkman will forever be known best for being the man behind The Walking Dead, I will insist until my dying day that Invincible has always been (and will always be) his finest work. Brilliantly written, with outstanding art and fantastic characters, this book is one of the pinnacles of superhero comics. I mention all this because today’s Invincible #118 is designed for folks who’ve never taken the plunge, by not only being a great jumping-on point, but also by being only 25 cents! That’s right, Invincible #118 has a price tag that will make you think your comic shop jumped back to 1960… and who doesn’t love that? And while you’re grabbing that, don’t miss new issues of Chew, Fuse, Rumble, that Walking Dead book I mentioned earlier, WicDiv and the return of Skullkickers!

Perfect PullsWhat’s in the box?! Valiant has had all of us asking that more times than Brad Pitt since the launch of The Valiant, and today is finally the day where we find out! The Valiant is quite possibly my favorite comic of all time, and if you’ve been missing out, grab today’s final issue and track down the other three as fast as you can… you need to be a part of this! Also this week, don’t miss out on a double-dose of Archie’s epic video game titles with both Mega Man and Sonic Universe, the latest chapter of Dynamite’s very cool Altered States line featuring The Shadow, and the truly, truly, truly outrageous debut of Jem and the Holograms from IDW!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, March 25th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
