Tyler’s Comic Corner – 3/12/14 Edition

Posted on March 12, 2014 at 12:01 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

cm1covMarvel Releases

Superior Spider-Man #29
Wolverine #3
X-Force #2
X-Men Legacy #300

Perfect Pulls: The All-New Marvel NOW movement rolls on, and this week it brings three new books to Marvel’s lineup. If you consider yourself a card-carrying member of the Carol Corps, you’ll be thrilled to know a new Captain Marvel hits shelves this week. If you prefer your superheroics to be a bit more incognito, you’ll be twice as thrilled, because two new books fit your description. Secret Avengers begins again with more of the SHIELD nonsense you love, but this time with 100% more MODOK! Also, Avengers Undercover brings the surviving kids from Avengers Arena into the dark world of the Masters of Evil, where they go undercover to prove they can be heroes… but it’s unlikely they’ll all remain that way. Of course, if these new books don’t excite you, there’s still plenty to love, with a double-dose of Superior goodness, Secret Avengers being solo in Hawkeye and Black Widow, and more X-titles than you can shake a Sentinel at.

Scooby-Doo Where Are You #43
Smallville Season 11 Alien #4 (Of 4)
Superboy #29
Superman Wonder Woman #6

Perfect Pulls: Finally, back to Zero Year! While the glimpse we got of the upcoming Batman Eternal in the pages of Batman #28 was pretty cool, it’s hard not to be excited that Batman has returned to showing us the all-new origin of the World’s Greatest Detective. The rest of the Bat family is well-represented as well. Nightwing ties into Forever Evil, pitting Nightwing against Zsasz (though how this ties in to an event that opened with Nightwing in chains I have no idea), as well as a new issue of Batgirl. If bats aren’t your thing, there’s also a new issue of the outstanding Justice League 3000, the always-excellent Green Lantern Corps, and the conclusion of the first arc of Superman Wonder Woman.

Perfect Pulls: While Image may be famous for bringing new, fresh books to the shelves every week, but this week they’re bringing back a classic. The uniquely noir stylings of Stray Bullets is back, both with a new series in Stray Bullets: Killers, as well as the long-awaited Stray Bullets #41, with the conclusion to the fan-favorite “HiJinks and Derring-Do” story arc.  Along with this epic return comes new issues in some of Image’s best books, including East of West, Manifest Destiny and Walking Dead, as well as Image classics like Spawn and Witchblade. IDW comes out swinging with the newest iteration of The Crow, this time in The Crow: Pestilence. When a Mexican boxer’s family is killed by a cartel, you can bet your last peso that the boxer’s coming back for some face-painted vengeance. Dynamite has two new books for you, with both a new Six-Million Dollar Man series, as well as the return of Magnus Robot Fighter, which looks fantastic. Dark Horse has a pair of one-shots to check out, particularly Nosferatu Wars, telling the tale of vampires running free during the Black Plague. Finally, BOOM! premiers The Returning, the tale of a not-so-distant future where those who’ve had near death experiences come back changed, and not for the better. Whether it’s science fiction, the occult, or good old fashioned vengeance, the indies have you covered!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, March 12th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
