Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Perfect Pulls: Fangirls rejoice! Today is very much your day when it comes to Marvel. Of course this means the premier of Loki: Agent of Asgard, Loki’s solo title where we can all assume he’ll continue to do good as evil-y as possible, and also do things to make the ladies swoon left and right. Along with Loki comes Ms. Marvel, a new take on the character featuring a teenage girl with what appears to be body-morphing powers. Not going to lie to you, nothing about the previews for this book have made it look terribly interesting, but a new leading lady is always worth checking out. It isn’t all lady fan service today, though. On the dark and gritty side, we have the premier of the newest Punisher series, which brings Frank Castle to the City of Angels to extract, well, punishment. And, the newest volume of Wolverine begins today, where a suddenly killable Logan starts to remake himself into the warrior he needs to be to stop Sabertooth from, well, killing him. Sure, neither of these books look to reinvent the wheel, but I suspect they’ll both be fun to read. Finally, more All-New Invaders already! I can’t think of a book I’d rather have on a fast printing schedule, if you missed #1 go get both today!

Swamp Thing #28
Trillium #6 (Of 8)
Trinity Of Sin The Phantom Stranger #16
Vampire Diaries #2

Perfect Pulls: There are a lot of gimmicks in the world of comics. Whether it’s hologram covers, fold out posters, packaged-in trading cards, there’s no shortage of things a publisher will do to make you buy their book. Typically, these things are essentially useless, and oftentimes they increase the price you pay… but DC has a book with a gimmick today that’s fantastic idea and a fantastic value all at once. Bundled together in a flip-style book are Green Lantern and Red Lantern #28, combining both books into one awesome title. Better yet, you get both books, but you still pay the standard $3.99 price. Hats off to DC; a classy move involving two fantastic titles. Also available this week is the latest chapter of Forever Evil. While I’ve been hard on this event, after the last issue it’s finally picking up, and this week we get the epic showdown of Sinestro and Power Ring… if that isn’t worth the cover price, I don’t know what is.

ApocAl1Image Releases

Aphrodite IX #8
Apocalypse Al #1 (Of 4)
Artifacts #34
Drumhellar #4
Five Ghosts #9
Invincible Universe #10
Lazarus #6
Minimum Wage #2
Sidekick #5

Perfect Pulls: Have you been reading Five Ghosts? I’ve only been telling you to read it since it was a miniseries… which then became a monthly because it was so good… and has continued to be just as great… so what are you waiting for?! We also have a new book, which has something going for it beyond being the next cool title from Image. Apocalypse Al tells the story of a private detective tasked with preventing the end of the world. The first of a four-part series, and the latest Image offering from the legendary JMS, this first issue is a full 30 pages, with no ads. Just like DC’s Lantern flip book, this is another classy move from a major publisher, and a great reason to grab this book!
