Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Perfect Pulls: Hey… is that a new issue of Hawkeye out today? They still make that book? I guess today is a great way to see if people actually still care about the title after several delays, but it’s probably safe to assume the excitement will still be there. If Hawkguy isn’t your guy, this week also sees the start of a new Captain America mini for the new Captain America, the latest issue of the getting-even-crazier Avengers, and the second issues of new hits Star Wars, Ant-Man and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. Also, don’t miss Black Vortex Alpha, kicking off the latest Guardians/X-Men crossover!

Wolf Moon #3 (Of 6)

Perfect Pulls: Today sees the release of Superman #38, which just may be the most controversial issue of the book since the start of Grounded. For the first time in decades, Superman will debut a new power, some sort of destructive flare blast. He’ll also be showing off a new costume design, that adds fingerless gloves and… not much else. So far, the initial reaction to both has been pretty negative, so it’ll be interesting to see the reception to today’s issue. If you’re skipping Supes, don’t skip out on guaranteed hits like Batman Eternal, Green Lantern, Detective Comics and the always lovable Grayson!

Perfect Pulls: Happy Birthday, Spawn! Image’s oldest and most recognizable brand hits the big 2-5-0 today, with Spawn #250 representing the latest massive milestone for the Image stalwart. It’s also the start of a brand new era for the Spawn franchise, kicking off the return of Al Simmons and the start of a brand new title, Spawn Ressurection. As a big fan of the franchise, I’m super excited for this, but if you’ve never read the book, it also looks like this is a good place to jump in! Also this week, Image has several new titles, including Postal, a new Stray Bullets, and Nameless, which features the reuniting of Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham… yes please!!

Mix that in with a new issue of X-O Manowar that’s a perfect jumping-on point for new readers, several new titles like Rat God and Cluster, and a brand new issue of Escape from New York and you’ve got an awesome day for the indies.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, February 4th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
