Tyler’s Comic Corner – 2/3/16 Edition

Posted on February 3, 2016 at 3:52 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

sm1covMarvel Releases

A-Force #2
Amazing Spider-Man #7
Captain America Sam Wilson #6
Captain Marvel #2
Contest Of Champions #5
Deadpool And The Mercs For Money #1 (Of 5)
Doctor Strange #5
Guardians Of Infinity #3
Howard The Duck #4
Invincible Iron Man #6
Nova #4
Obi-Wan And Anakin #2 (Of 5)
Rocket Raccoon And Groot #2
Scarlet Witch #3
Spider-Man #1
Spidey #3
Uncanny Avengers #5
Uncanny X-Men #3

Perfect Pulls: There have been a lot of things to love about this new Marvel Universe, and while the road to get here may have been a bumpy one, the destination was worth the trip. That being said, the change I most embrace is without a doubt the addition of Miles Morales to the “real” Marvel U. While Miles has been in the pages of a few new books, his solo book finally hits shelves today, and I can not wait to read it. If you’ve somehow never been introduced to Miles, do yourself a favor and grab Spider-Man #1 today, you won’t regret it. And while you’re there, don’t forget to grab the latest issue of Amazing Spider-Man, Obi-Wan and Anakin, and Doctor Strange. (I still can’t believe I’m enjoying a Strange solo book, but it’s too good to deny.)

bare18covDC Releases

Action Comics #49
Batgirl #48
Batman And Robin Eternal #18
Batman Beyond #9
Batman Europa #4 (Of 4)
Detective Comics #49
Green Arrow #49
Green Lantern #49
Looney Tunes #229
Midnighter #9
Sheriff Of Babylon #3 (Of 8)
Survivors’ Club #5
Swamp Thing #2 (Of 6)
Unfollow #4
We Are Robin #8

Perfect Pulls: It’s one of those DC lists that’s almost entirely Bat-related, or as we call it in my home, a very good day. While Batgirl still doesn’t do it for me (here’s hoping the Rebirth reboot brings me a Babs that makes sense), there is tons of new Bat-goodness on shelves. New issues of Batman and Robin Eternal, We Are Robin, Detective Comics and the final issue of Batman Europa means there’s a lot for me to read this morning! There’s also a new issue of Action Comics out today, as well as the latest chapter of the much-acclaimed Swamp Thing mini.

Axcend #4
Mirror #1
Nailbiter #20
Paper Girls #5
Pretty Deadly #8
Saints #5
Shutter #18
Spawn #260
Velvet #13
Walking Dead #151

Perfect Pulls: Image’s latest, like many Image titles, has a solicit that reads like an advertisement for a circus coming to town. Promising “a terrorist talking dog, an idealist mage, and a heroic lab rat on their quest for acceptance,” you can’t help but say “yup, sounds like an Image book” when you read that. However, that solicit also makes mention of the fact that Emma Rios is on writing duties for this book; in other words, you’ll at least be trying the first issue! Also, don’t miss out on The Walking Dead #151, picking up from the chaos of the last landmark issue.

Perfect Pulls: Do you wish more comics crushed your feels into a tiny ball? No? Me neither, which is why I’ll be avoiding BOOM! Studio’s latest book Kennel Block Blues, a prison drama with a twist: it’s an animal shelter. Don’t get me wrong; this book sounds fantastic, and comes with a creative team I know and trust, but I am a sensative little panda when it comes to animals (even anthropomorphic ones) so count me out. You should totally buy it, though! Also, don’t miss out on a new issue of the always-awesome X-O Manowar from Valiant, as well as the penultimate issue of Cullen Bunn’s awesome Voltron: From the Ashes from Dynamite.

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, February 3rd. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
