Tyler’s Comic Corner – 2/27 Edition

Posted on February 27, 2013 at 4:17 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

gog1Marvel Releases

Astonishing X-Men #59
Avengers Arena #5
Avenging Spider-Man #17
Deadpool Killustrated #2 (Of 4)
FF #4
Gambit #9
Guardians Of The Galaxy #0.1
Hawkeye #8
Journey Into Mystery #649
Punisher War Zone #5 (Of 5)
Thunderbolts #5
Ultimate Comics X-Men #23
Uncanny Avengers #4
Uncanny X-Force #2
Uncanny X-Men #2
X-Men Legacy #6
X-Treme X-Men #11
Young Avengers #2

Perfect Pulls: The Guardians of the Galaxy are back, and I couldn’t be happier about it! Marvel’s cosmic side has always been an under-appreciated genre of books, but with a movie on the way this side of Marvel is getting much more attention, which I’m all for. Combine that with the team of Brian Michael Bendis and Steve McNiven on the book and Guardians of the Galaxy becomes a must-buy. Also, the tale of two Uncanny books continues this week, or more appropraitely, the tale of two Summers. Cyclops leads his X-Men in the fantastic Uncanny X-Men, while Havok leads his Uncanny Avengers in another attempt to redeem this lackluster-so-far series.

robin-batman-inc-8-variantDC Releases

All-Star Western #17
Aquaman #17
Arrow #4
Batman Incorporated #8
Batman The Dark Knight #17
Before Watchmen Dr. Manhattan #4 (Of 4)
Flash #17
Fury Of Firestorm The Nuclear Man #17
I Vampire #17
Injustice Gods Among Us #2
Joe Kubert Presents #5 (Of 6)
Justice League Dark #17
Red Lanterns #17
Savage Hawkman #17
Talon #5
Teen Titans #17
Unwritten #46

Perfect Pulls: Something huge happens this week in Batman Incorporated, I won’t talk about it here but I imagine I’ll talk about it at length once it’s had some time to be read. If you’re a Bat-fan, you need to read this issue. This week’s other Bat-title The Dark Knight reveals the New 52 origin of the Mad Hatter, and considering the marked improvement in Freeze’s origin I’m hoping Hatter gets the same. Also, rarely will I recommend a video game tie-in book, but the first issue of Injustice was pretty impressive; might be worth checking out, especially if you’re getting the game.

Artifacts #25
Carbon Grey Volume 2 #3 (Of 3)
Five Weapons #1 (Of 5)
Hack Slash #24
Legend Of Luther Strode #3 (Of 6)
MacGyver Fugitive Gauntlet #5 (Of 5)
Prophet #34
Uncanny Skullkickers #1
Witch Doctor Mal Practice #4 (Of 6)

Perfect Pulls: High on my list this week is Uncanny Skullkickers #1. Skullkickers is a great book, sort of fantasy but mostly ridiculous, and woefully unread. You can start here, and current fans can start it again for the first time. Also high is Five Weapons, a story about a 13 year old kid outsmarting his way through a school of assassins. It’s a book with a lot of cool ideas… and the fact that the kid’s name is Tyler doesn’t hurt my chances of reading it either.

Perfect Pulls: IDW’s top brands are all represented this week, from Turtles to Transformers, a new Rocketeer one shot and a double-dip of Doctor Who. Dynamite’s fantastic crossover Masks continues this week as well, and one of Dark Horse’s coolest Star Wars minis comes to a close as well. The Agent of the Empire series of books portray the espionage side of the Empire, a side we never get enough of.
