Tyler’s Comic Corner – 2/25/15 Edition

Posted on February 25, 2015 at 12:01 am by Tyler Waterman

Welcome to Tyler’s Comic Corner, where I highlight the majority of this week’s new comic releases. My highlights include mainstream and indie titles, ensuring your pull list won’t be deprived of one of this week’s gems. My apologies if your favorite isn’t listed, but good news; you clearly already knew it was coming!

Wolverines #8

Perfect Pulls: No, your eyes don’t deceive you; Spider-Gwen isn’t the featured cover in the Marvel section of this week’s Comic Corner. To be clear, that’s not a knock on the book, but it’s going to get so much attention today that I don’t think I need to alert you that it’s out. So, let’s instead talk about a book you may have missed. Men of Wrath #5 comes out today, the final issue in a miniseries that just may be Jason Aaron and Ron Garney’s best work, and that’s making a bold statement indeed.  If concepts like revenge, karma, and inherited sins catch your attention, you should read this book. If those concepts don’t rustle your jimmies, the likes of Daredevil, Amazing Spider-Man, Darth Vader and Thor Annual #1 (featuring CM Punk’s comic premier) should be able to hold your interest.

Star-Spangled War Stories Featuring G.I. Zombie #7
Suiciders #1

Perfect Pulls: There is a new Vertigo book starting today that doesn’t seem like a Vertigo book at all, but looks outstanding nonetheless. Suiciders is the latest from Lee Bermejo, whose talent for producing dark, brutal books is well known, and this appears to be another fine example. Set in a post-apocalyptic LA, with drug and tech-enhanced competitors facing off in a lethal version of American Gladiators? Yup, that’s a book I’m going to check out, and you all should too. Speaking of Vertigo, the imprint is also represented with the latest Sandman Overture and the final Bodies, while the super-side of DC comes out swinging with Gotham hits like Batman Eternal, Gotham Academy and Arkham Manor, as well as classics like Deathstroke, Flash and Sinestro.

Superannuated Man #6 (Of 6)

Wicked + The Divine #8

Perfect Pulls: I’m always happy when I’m putting a Comic Corner together and it makes me realize that a new WicDiv issue is hitting shelves that week… and this is one of those weeks! WicDiv #8 promises to make the fan and the crowd the star of this issue, and who even knows what that means, but it really doesn’t matter. This book never skips a beat, and I have no doubt this week will be the same. Image fans can also look forward to new issues of Low, Rasputin, ODY-C and Intersect, while cult-classic series Chew takes one step closer to its finale.

Valiant Entertainment:
Quantum And Woody Must Die #2 (Of 4)

Perfect Pulls: This week sees the premier of Black Hood, the story of a former Philly police officer who’s lost everything after stepping into a gunfight he didn’t expect. It cost him his job, his innocence, a man’s life and even his own face which is now horribly scarred… and left him with no other way to dispense justice than to don a black hood and hand it out himself. Now… would it shock you at all if I told you that book was from Archie?! It’s true, and if I didn’t want to check out Black Hood before, I definitely have to now. Also this week, don’t miss out on the latest issue of Quantum and Woody Must Die! from Valiant, a hefty dose of TMNT goodness from IDW, and a new Prince Valiant book from Dynamite. Yes, that Prince Valiant!

Those are the highlights for Wednesday, February 25th. Anything you simply can’t live without, or simply can’t imagine reading? Share it in the comments!
